wiskeesour Dec 13th, 06, 05:29 PM Hey guys, friend of mine just called and was asking what I thought about a 69 firebird in restorable condition. How much it was worthbut, its missing the V.I.N. tag? I told him it shouldnt be to much trouble becausse the vin is under the blower motor for the heater...any suggestions? comments?:)
jet_car2000 Dec 13th, 06, 09:45 PM run away fast !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jonesy Dec 14th, 06, 08:53 AM I would confirm first that the VIN is actually missing. Is he looking in the right place? If it is missing, I would pass on it. Unless you want to go throught the trouble of getting it registered with the state under a new state issued VIN.
I think that would always put a cloud of doubt over that vehicle.
wiskeesour Dec 14th, 06, 08:40 PM I looked myself the vin TAG is missing the partial is still behind the heater/blower motor...I think he should pass too.....but he saw my car the other day and flipped. but decided Camaros are too pricey...I told him wait till he starts putting a Pontiac together...lol
TJS69 Dec 15th, 06, 04:20 AM For $400 I would buy it as a parts vehicle, and never hope to title it. However you could be in posession of stolen property.
CDJr Dec 15th, 06, 08:59 PM Are you saying the firewall tag is missing? Or the whole VIN on the dash is missing?

I agree. $400 = good parts car = a couple weeks of Ebaying

The VIN on the dash is gone....
Dustypowers Dec 16th, 06, 10:28 PM must have vin
RamAirDave Dec 16th, 06, 11:13 PM It really hurts a Pontiac when the VIN is missing..... PHS docs are based upon the VIN.
Of course, it hurts all vehicles. But with Pontiacs, the VIN is more important than the trim tag.
wiskeesour Dec 16th, 06, 11:18 PM I thought that was true... I knew the Ponties were special...;)
Camaro Dave Dec 17th, 06, 07:18 PM Hey guys, friend of mine just called and was asking what I thought about a 69 firebird in restorable condition. Does the car have a clean title? Did he ask the present owner of the car where the VIN tag is? It's possible the dash was replaced and the VIN tag removed for that reason and just lost in the process.
wiskeesour Dec 17th, 06, 08:13 PM We backed out of the deal come to find out...the 'papers' he had on the car were just 'bill of sale'.."later, dude...ooo.. and good luck selling your car"...lol
dubs68camaro Dec 18th, 06, 04:38 PM I bet if the VIN is gone......the title has been lost as well. Coming from the son of an auto theft detective for 27 years, it's amazing how many people are in possesion of a vehicle with only a bill of sale. Bill's of sale mean nothing when you are talking to the judge on an auto theft charge. NEVER take possesion of a vehicle without the title. When VIN's are missing, there is usually a very good reason. Someone might be trying to "wash" a vehicle with another title from a car that might have been cut into tiny, little pieces.
