I've seen lots of posts on swapping seats, but nothing on 3rd gen seats in a 1st gen car.

I've been looking for some nice 4th gen seats, and came across these 3rd gen seats for $50..
A local upholstery shop repaired the foam and began replacing the fabric, when the customer left without paying for them.
They have the original rails/tracks and seem to be in good shape.

They are worth $50, but I wanted to know if anyone here has tried putting 3rd gen seats into a 1st gen car.

..or why people don't??
I realize I'll need to do some modification on the mounting tracks, and found Eric's pics on this process.
Are 3rd gen cheap? uncomfortable? too wide??

My 69 had 3rd gen seats in when I bought it. I removed them because I am going back to original. They are more comfortable, and yes they are taller. My steering wheel is a smaller diameter aftermarket one, I am guessing that the factory steering wheel was too close to the seat for comfort. As far as putting them in, it shouldn't be too hard. They actually used the 69 seat tracks to mount the 3rd gen seats to. They used the front hole on the track and bolted it in the front hole of the 3rd gen seat. Then they drilled a hole in back corner of the seat frame and attached it to the back of the track with a short bolt. They used a washer and nut on the top side. If your not going for original then they sky is the limit.

You could pretty much put whatever you like. I've seen people put anything from Mustang seats to seats out of a Honda! It just all comes down to personal prefference. I chose to go with 4th Gen seats, cause I like the look mainly. :beers:

Thanks guys..
I bought those 3rd gen seats.
The foam and bottoms are new, and it came with all the plastic covers and an extra set of tracks.
I figured for $50, I couldn't go wrong.
If I don't like the look, I should be able to sell them fast.

I'll post some pics when I get them installed..
