I am installing a LS1 in a 68 camaro. I allready have the motor and tranny in the sub-frame,oil pick up tube modifyed,and oil pan notched and powder coated. Then,someone asked if I put on a new o-ring on the pick-up tube.I did not. Do I need to pull it back down just to install a new o-ring?? What do ya think??

It's probably fine unless it was cut or pinched. i re-used the one on my TT LS2 several times.

Depends on the condition of the o-ring at the time. Since it's just a sub-frame now it might be wise to pull it and replace the o-ring now. I say this because if it is a problem it's easy to take care of now.

The technical part is that if the o-ring leaks it can suck air where it's mounted if the mounting point is out of the oil. If it's sucking air it will foam the oil and cause bearing damage. Big picture might be replacement now at the cost of some labor to replace the .50 cent o-ring that could cause big bucks in damage.

Not sure if you have the room, but I was able to put a new o-ring on my pickup tube when I did a cam swap in my 01 Z06. I never touched the pan bolts- I was able to carefully remove the old one & slip the new one on. Dont drop that tiny 10mm bolt in the pan either! Scott
