I need a new Water pump on my numbers matching car. It is my understanding, and please correct me if I am wrong that water pumps do not fall into the numbers matching category.
Is this correct? Should I save the original water pump?
ANY info will help me out.
THANKS!

Any normal wear items do not count as far as "Number Matching" like hoses, brake shoes, shocks, water pump, tires, exhaust system. It should be stated that the "Purists" will state that every part has to be date correct to have a numbers matching car. I am sure others will chime in with what they think.

Have yours rebuilt. Check www.hemmings.com for rebuilders. Or get the kit and rebuild it locally.

What do you mean by 'fall into the numbers matching cat.' ...
If you mean - the date codes fell within the normal range of date codes for the other components - then, yes they did.
As stated, the pumps were a common replacement part and later 'universal' castings were commonly found on rebuilts v.s. the original cating types.
Many consider this a normal occurance for a vehicle and that it doesn't count unless it's a high-points restoration or an unrestored original.
I was able to find a few correct number castings with incorrect date codes to rebuild as spares - I let it go at that ...

They are date codes, so you'd need one with a date prior to engine assembly. For your car though, I'd get it rebuilt.

If you have a numbers matching radiator with tag, why can't you have a radiator shop solder in a new core, keep your tanks? Too easy?
