He has a point. My '67 RS has the original grill and I don't really want to drill the rivets to remove the grill.

Any tips on touching it up without removal?

Could Rit black dye be used to recolor it? This stuff seems to dye most anything.

I'm with CFunk... I still have the original rivets in my 67 RS Grill, Moldings, & Valance and I would hate to drill them out to replace my original pieces which are badly faded... nice to keep things as original as possible... any ideas?

I would recommend replacing it. You can get rivets that are very close to the originals, but if you absolutely want to keep the original (I'm not sure if these are the best ways), you could try to:

Hard... Paint it with a Satin black like Rustoleum #7777

Harder...Armor All it, or perhaps one of those tire gels that are on the market. Probably will require repeat applications to keep it dark.

Hardest...Try to polish it with a plastic polish (Eastwood sells one). I used Mequires No. #7 on my plastic guage lenses and black plastic housing it buffed up nice, you could try that if you have some.

Be careful! I'm sure it's brittle.

well , I see that I am not the only one that has thought of this , so far I like the buffing Idea , already tried the armor all , it look's good for a few day's or till you wash it ,

Here's what I came up with tonight.

I had some Mother's "Back to Black" in the garage and decided to give it a try. Well lo and behold it worked. I had some foam detailing brushes laying around and took my time but it looks nice and black now.

The cool thing about the Mother's product is when it dries, it dries with a black sheen to it. It will take far longer to wash off than say an Amrour All product.

I used a can of satin black spray paint used for painting automotive plastic and it looks great. Had it for 2 years now and it seems to be standing up...
