The P7H29 transmission is Model Year 1967 and since it's August it was assembled in 1966.

But "H" isn't August. P7H29 would be June 29th, 1967, for a late 1967 car.

OOPS! I had brain fade, forgot that trans have there own unique month dates . Me bad. LMAO.

Could the H not also be June29th/66 for a 67 model year car Ed? Correct me if i am wrong but could not a early build Sept.66 built 1967 car have this trans? The trans were stockpiled were they not? When 1967 cars started production could this trans have laid around for approx 2 months? What was the normal lag on trans assembly dates to production dates? My own 06A Z28 trans is dated almost 2 months before my cars production date.
Just wondering?

Yes, I think that's possible. In this case, since there's no VIN, this transmission could have been used in a very early 1967 (Say like August, 1966) or very late 1967 model.

This one is being advertised as an M22 and does have the bottom drain plug, but no "C" in it's numbers. http://www.sell.com/22XQFH I thought one characteristic of the M22 trannys that is different than the others was the bottom drain plug.

POH17A is the code he listed in the ad. A at the end tells you it's an M-20. Any of the 20's or 21's could have the drain plug drilled and tapped like the 22's.

That is not an M22 it is an M20. When the muncies went to the fine spline and large output they all got the drain plug. If you look at the cluster gear in the pictures you will notice it has 2 rings or grooves just like the output shaft for an M20.

That Muncie looks like it has the 10 spline shaft and the numbers say it is a '70 model. Someone must have drilled and tapped for the drain plug.
Thanks for the info guys.

Andrew, for 1970, only the Chevelle M22 got the fine spline. All others received the corse spline as in the previous years. the fine spline became standard for all cars in 1971.

All 1970 model year and later Muncie main cases have drain plugs from the factory, M-20's, M21's and M-22's... Crash

Andrew, those are M20/M21 cut. Look HERE (http://www.camaros.org/trans.shtml) to see the difference.

Yes, comparing them to your linked picture they do look to be the M20/M21 angle cut.

Thank you,
Andrew
