I am thinking about painting my 68 Sunset Fire Prism, which is one of Dupont's chromalusion paints. I am not a very experianced painter but I have sprayed a few cars. Does this paint require any special application techniques or can I spray it like any other paint? Has anyone ever sprayed this stuff and have any pointers?

I would be willing to bet that it is a tricky type to paint. I (ok, my dad) will be painting mine Dodge Intense Blue Pearl Coat and he just found out that is one of the more tricky colors to put on a car. Oh boy! He will be pestering his body shop friends to learn the tricks.

matgo6, I've sprayed the PPG version of that (Harlequin) and it sprayed very easy, no harder than a regular metallic. I've heard the DuPont version is non-concentrated and the PPG is the concentrated version. I had full coverage in two coats, but I've heard it takes up to 5 with the DuPont. Don't get me wrong the PPG stuff if twice the price, but they were both developed by the same guy and then formulated to fit differant paint manufacturers lines.

Austin, from what I have heard PPG's Harlequin takes MUCH less to cover a car and is less money in the long run. Your two coats sounds like this is true.

Yes thats true, but in many cases (such as a friend of mine) he was using it as a "mid coat" so he was better off with the DuPont (which his shop uses anyway). I guess it all depends on how your using it. Either way as MARTINSR knows stick with one manufacter for the whole project.

RobR,
That Dodge intense blue pearlcoat is a great color isn't it. My car was just painted with it. I don't remember the painter making any comments on it being hard to spray though.

matgo6, The Dupont chromalusion Is very easy to spray. and covers better over black or a dark colored sealer. Nyle
