I want to install a grab bar in a 69 I have been working on for my wife. The car was originally a IL6 base car with a console shifter. I'm putting in factory style gauges and reworking the cosole, she wants to put a grab bar in it. Does anyone make a template for drilling the holes? I can't seem to find any info or one for sale. Am I on my own to make one?
Thanks to all for any help I can Get.
Bud.

Hey Bud,

I don't have a template but I do have a photo of a dash that has the holes for the grab handle. Hope this helps. Perhaps someone else can give you some dimensions.

When you get the black plastic piece that goes behind the grab bar, you can use the 2 holes as your template for the handle. Just center the black plate between the dash gauge bezel and the astro vent. Have your dash pad installed to make sure your not too high with the plate. If you need some closeups, just drop a note.

Thats how I did mine. I had to waller out the 2 holes that have the knobs on the back. I should have made a card board templete instead and fit it to it first. The black plastic piece cover it up but wish I would have did a better job. I get in a hurry some times.:D

Thanks Guys. I have access to a 69 that has a grab bar. I think I'm going to try to make a template. I'll let you know how it turns out and will share copies if it turns out good. It may take me a week or two with Christmas coming on.
Thanks for the help, Bud.

It's in. I made a template and had my nephew come over and help line it up. He runs a sign shop part time so he has a good eye.We center punched it with a spring loaded punch and drilled.I'm sure it was his help that had alot to do with how well it came out. We have it back apart for painting the interior and I'll try to post Pics when its finished. We made the template by tracing the trim onto a thin cardboard poster board. We made sure to mark the back side of the template so we didn't drill the holes backwrds. We marked the holes for the handel and camaro logo. The next part was the hard part. We measured and mearured again, then again to get the holes for the mounting pegs correct. We knew we had some room for adjustment so we just took our time and it came out good. Thanks to all that gave me advice.
