This is not a question referring to camaros. But you guys have been a great help on all my other questions that I have on my 69 camaro that I thought that I would ask. A friend told me that their car overheated on them the other day (steam and water pouring out on the interstate). They said that about a week ago they had just replaced the water pump. What else may they have overlooked to do or check. Or is could it be just a bad pump? Thanks.

Did they make sure the hoses were tight?
if they used tower clamps - did they go on straight/ (the repros are terrible)
Where was the water leaking from?
Need to find out - that would be the biggest clue.
Any noise before it happened?
Was the car running super hot when it happened - or did it just lose pressure?

I doubt if it's a bad waterpump, since they just replaced it a week ago. There must be another problem and they assumed it was the pump, so they replaced it. Was the thermostat replaced as well? Also, where was the water pouring out of? Check for a leaking hose or as already stated... a loose hose clamp....possibly a crack in the radiator. Have the system pressurized and checked for leaks. Check the belts and make sure they are not loose or missing......start there.

If the cooling system can't hold pressure, it will boil over. Replace the radiator cap, thats the cheapest and easiest fix. If that doesn't work, then you can try the other stuff.

back flush the coolant system and add new coolant
