I'm working on a 85 Camaro and it had a V6 with a TH700R4 in it and I'm putting a 350 V8 with a TH350 what I would like to know if the drive shaft will work or will I have to have a new one made. I know I will have to more the crossmember back a little. I was looking in Classic Industries and they make two types of kit's for the coaversion but not sure just what one I do need.

www.thirdgen.org might help.
Actually, I think we talked about this recently, try to search. I think the 700R4 shaft is too short. The ones form the 3 speed auto cars (TH200) work fine.

What are you using the car for? for the track? If it is a cruiser, I think I'd stay with the 700R4...
As for the drive shaft, You might want to measure, I have 2 -th350s and one has a long tail shaft and one is a short.
I'm going with 700R4 in my 67... jmho

its mostly going to be a fast street car but i plan on running open track events at the local strip i just wana show off and smoke the ocasional bumble bee honda. did third gen cars ever come with a th350 if so do u know how the torqe arm was mounted. or if junkyard parts are readily avalible.i'd like to spend as little on trans swap as possible. the motor is gettin most of my cash

they make swap kits but only 1 problem the trans needs to be taken apart and output shaft put in trans and gives you all needed parts without drilling frames changing driveshafts and through frame to rear. pm me ill send info on where to buy and a round about price for kit.

I got my kit from Classic Industries it's a Hurst kit and it cost 95.95. All I had to take off was the 3 bolts on the tail shaft and put the plate on it. I went with the th350 because it would cost me 3 times more to build a 700r4.

Third gen's did not come with a Turbo 350 at any time or a turbo 400. The 700R4 debuted with the introduction of the 3rd gen in 1982. Later on I think it was in 1984 or maybe 1987 the 700R4 changed from a 27 spline to 30 spline input shaft. This made the trans more durable. I would keep the 700R4. It has a steep 1st gear of 3:06....I think the turbo 350 & turbo 400 have a 2.48 ratio. As long as you plan on staying at less than 450 horsepower a nicely built 700R4 should be fine and help your car launch well and smoke those junk 4 banger Honda's. Go get em!!

is that 2.48 taking my 3.42 rear end ratio into account and a ( nicely built 700 r4 ) is out of my price range the th350 i have was free and has a shift kit already installed

the tranny ratio has nothing to do with the rear end ratio...two seperate things...the th400 is 2.48, and the th350 i believe is 2.58...not positave on the th350 though...the trans ratio9 means that the engine will turn 2.48 times for every 1 turn of the drive shaft...then the drive shaft will turn 3.42 times for every one turn of the ring gear, or axle...second gear will turn the engine (just a guess on the ratio) 1.89 times for every one turn of the driveshaft, and 3rd is 1 to 1, not accounting for converter slip...
