Drove the '97 RS yesterday and got caught in the rain. Now I need to wash it and was wondering what was the best kind of soap to use that will not wash the new wax off either.
I will probably go ahead and wax it anyway because it is freakin' raining AGAIN this weekend and I have nothing to do. But, as usual, next time I get it out will rain again so I need to know what kind of soap to use the next time????

Any kind of car wash soap from your local pep boys, kragen walmart etc will work fine. Don't use dish soap as the stuff in it that breaks down greese will remove the wax from your finish.

I'm fond of Eagle 1 car wash. I don't like the wax they have that lasts a long time. The red car wash soap works great and is a prewax solution whatever that is. The wax when I tried it might of been a pain due to high humidity. Anyway the red Eagle 1 car wash only take a little and lasts. Directions say to blast the soap with the added water to make lots of suds. Works great washing the car and rinses off real good here.
The reason i originally purchased Eagle 1 was product reports from car mags on products. The brand was highly rated. This might of changed after some other advertiser paid more. It's a much better product than turtle.

I tried a new car wash/wax combination from meguires this weekend. It works very well. The chrome on my 87 Fifth Avenue (now my car) sparkled as if it was new. I got it at the local paint supply store and it is in 1 gallon containers. It is purple and smells like grapes. I did manage to clean the bird crap off of it (20 minutes after I washed it) very easily.

Another little tip (I've got a black car and a black truck). If you have hard water.
Put just a drop or two of JetDry (the stuff you put in your dishwasher) in a bucket of clean water after you have washed it and pour over the car - then wipe down - eliminates alot of the spots.
Works for me.

There is a message board where pro detail guys help people like us to choose products for doing our own cars. If you recently waxed your car then it rained they reccomend that you wash it, with carwash soap (meguires, etc) then use a "quick detailer" to bring the shine back. Its easy to use and looks great. The site I posted talks about the best waxes, polishes, cleaners...
