: 69 headlamp surround color?
deejaygee Dec 20th, 06, 05:01 PM Does anyone know under which circumstances a car would get the bright trim on the bezel around the headlamp?
Below are pics of two Hugger Orange SS, both with black grille and headlamp bezels, but one has the bright trim on the bezels and the other doesn't:

William Dec 20th, 06, 05:33 PM The bright trim on the headlamp bezels was included with the optional Z21 Stylr Trim Group.
67RS/SS406 Dec 20th, 06, 06:45 PM I believe the style trim is on the X11,X22,and X33 cars.If the cowl tag does not have any X codes check if your car has the quarter panel louvers.I think the louvers were also part of the style trim option.

That's what I figured, William.
For the record, the camaros.org discussion of X codes (http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#XnnCodes) is somewhat misleading in this regard. My car is coded X66 and doesn't have style trim -- the camaros.org document claims "The X66 code has the same meaning as X55, but with a blacked-out tailpan", yet X55 is defined as having the bright headlamp bezel face moldings in the table entitled "X11, X44, and X55 Distinctive Body Trim and Paint Features" in the same document.
Lee H Weber Dec 20th, 06, 07:55 PM Guys, just for clarity sakes....
For the non X cars - ie, VN builds, are you saying that if you have black surround color then you get no QTR Louvre trim???
I know this car was done with painstaking correctness in mind, and I'm seeing black surround color, and look at whats shinny and hanging on the rear qtrs:yes:

I'm asking for clarity as I want to make sure I get it right on mine:D
z10kl Dec 20th, 06, 08:05 PM I think all SS cars got louvers
RamAirDave Dec 20th, 06, 09:00 PM I think all SS cars got louvers
Correct. All SS had the 1/4 louvers regardless of style trim or not.
69 L 89 RAG Dec 20th, 06, 09:38 PM The car on the bottom has a very rare option. (Look closely at the grill) When plugged in and while wearing special glasses  you can actually see the chrome rings around the headlights. I believe this option is in the factory assembly manual under (UC-UM)

That's the plug for a block heater (RPO K05) shown in the photo.
JOE58 Dec 21st, 06, 08:52 AM I thought that plug was for the super rare prototype gas/electric hybrid 69 Camaro

You are absolutely correct. It is included with mandatory option RPO Z/EC which is a 500 mile long extension cord placed in the trunk.
Lee H Weber Dec 21st, 06, 11:26 AM No No Boys...you're all wrong....
Its the cetrafuse line to the Flux Capaciter that was RPO 007. It put out over 1.7 million jiggawatts to the rear wheels.... :disco:
...oh, the humor.:noway: :clonk:
Unreal Dec 21st, 06, 04:43 PM The headlight bezel was the color of the grille. All non-RS SS's got black grille, except for Black, which got the argent grille. All other cars, Z/28, plain Jane, got the argent grille

CamarosRus Dec 22nd, 06, 10:18 PM While on the subject of these headlamp bezels and "argent" grills does anyone have SPECIFIC info on silver paint brand and color............
I picked up some KRYLON "FUSION" (Bonds to Plastic) #2439 Satin Pewter Gray to replicate the GM plastic .....and #2338
Nickel Shimmer for the Silver Egg Crate area. This looks(good on can top) much shinier than Dull Aluminum.
Does anybody have Original factory silver grill to look at, or has seen how SCW does there COPO grills.......
Or should I stay with the KRYLON Dull Aluminum?????
Thanks,
RamAirDave Dec 22nd, 06, 11:25 PM Interesting, what appears to be an X66 car recently restored by SCW has the bright trim around the headlights.

William Dec 23rd, 06, 08:00 AM Probably just brain fade but a few non-style trim cars were built with them.
69 L 89 RAG Dec 23rd, 06, 07:04 PM Or maybe it's a X22 without the wheel trim. If it is a X66 might have been the owners preference. My X66 doesn't have the chrome. The tread doesn't say ether way. Still an breath taking car!
CamarosRus Feb 18th, 07, 11:53 AM After LOOKING at many 69 Camaro Silver grilles at B/J and Russo and Steele auctions.............I'm still obsessed to learn what name, brand,#,color, style, type SILVER paint is most accurate to replicate the original for "ARGENT SILVER"
Plain English.......what, where, how do I buy whatever ARGENT SILVER is?????

PPG 8568 or Omni MTK-8568, I just used the PPG in acrylic enamal and it worked and looked good. Also DuPont 42153 ,never used it.

Not to say this is what the SCW did on the X66 in the link you posted.
However when buying reproduction 69 headlight bezels they only come with the trim ring.
Same is true of the 69 non RS repo tail lamp lenses, they come with the two small vertical stainless steel trim pieces that would be part of Z21 style trim group.
