I have the original powerglide out of my 69' that I am looking to reuse. It hasn't run in about 10 years so I took it to the shop to get checked out. Would you guys suggest anything for me to have done to it that is not stock? I am putting in a 4bbl 350. Thanks!

Out of curiosity, why do you want to reuse it? A TH350 or even a 200R4 would seem to be a better choice behind a 350.

I'm with Jim. I'd only use a P/G if I was building a monster that would shatter a 3-speed. If your only running 600 hp or under, go with a 3 or 4 speed auto. The overdrive trans' are cheap enough at the junkyard and you'll save a bunch o' money in gas.

If you decided on re-using the Powerglide, a shift kit would not hurt. A rebuild of the oil pump, new plates, both steel & friction, new vacuum modulator, basically, a good rebuild with a shift kit.

ATF turns to jelly after setting for a few years, becomes sticky. I would also exchange the torque convertor for the next step up, say 1800-2000 stall rpm, aka, B&M Street Fighter, I think, or similar item. An external oil cooler for the ATF would have to be added in series after the radiator oil cooler.

As said, a TH350 is a direct replacement, even with the shifter, except you would not be able to shift to 1st gear unless you modified the detent plate. Even then, I'd step up the stall rpm of the convertor one notch.
