Picked up the 69 i bought on ebay the other night, drove it home about 100 miles, after he had driven it about 150 miles, didnt miss a beat. i even had a 60 yo lady in a caddy flick her lights and wave, must of brought back old memories. the guy thought the car had a 350 in it. i was to busy checking the body to pay close attention to the motor, i was just happy he made it. got the car home, cleaned the back of the block ran the numbers, it was a 307. at first i thought man not a 307, then i realized hey i just drove this thing 100 miles on 4 gallons. then when i pulled the POP i realized it was the original motor for the car. granted its not as valuable as a z or ss car, but to have all the docs and everything match made the car worth more to me than if it had a 350 in it. the guy had a printout of a 3k rebuild that was done on the motor 2 yrs ago, not sure why youd that to a 307 but it ran like a champ. Next thing is to find the build sheet.

Nice to have the original motor, but I find it hard to believe the owner didn't know the difference between a 307 and a 350. I'd go over that car with a fine tooth comb, but that's just me............KZ

well i thought the same, ive had/built several 69s, everything else checked out on the car, and since he had the POP and original invoice i would have thought if he knew what he was looking at he would have found the numbers and matched them. besides from an ebay standpoint, for him, a numbers 307 would be worth more than a non numbers with a decent 350 in it. i can find a 350 hanging in a tree, but i couldnt replace the original motor.

Didnt the car have badges? If it still had the 307 badges Stevie Wonder could have figured it out.

Looks like you gat a great deal. I would not care about the 307 one bit as like you said 350's are a dime a dozen. what is important is that you got a nice solid car.:hurray:   Enjoy it!!

i think im going to leave it stock for a while, i drove the car over 100 miles home. it ran good, had decent power. although a 502 would be nice.
