Since we have alot of military folks in here, as well as those that support our troops, I wanted to share a project that hit the press this morning in our little town.
I have a buddy in Iraq and he emailed me in Sept. with some misc. stuff and then mentioned some tiles that were falling off the tub wall in his bathroom back home and asked if I knew someone that could help his wife fix it... no more said than that and this idea bloomed back in October and became very successful and it broke for the first time this morning 12/22/06 in our local paper. (article on this) (http://www.brainerddispatch.com/stories/122206/new_20061222004.shtml) and now I can release the info. on what we did and encourage anyone, anywhere in the U.S., to approach your local Realtor and Builders Assoc. with this concept to assist family of deployed soldiers overseas. Anyone with questions can email me thru our military makeover website for this. (I'm the web admin for it)

The soldier in Iraq will hear about this from his wife today sometime and he will be directed to the website to see his NEW bathroom.
All the folks involved with this were thrilled to help and especially at Christmas time. :hurray:

It was so easy Im still amazed. Local Realtor and Builders Assn. all over the country have always helped the needy, low income, etc. but nobody ever asked about this type of help for vets. The response when asked was quickly YES and within a few days the first contractor was on site. So many folks want to help but dont have an avenue to make that help available. We have a 'readiness' group for military families but that is more for finding them baby sitters, someone to rake leaves or plow snow etc. and that applies to folks that rent as well.
In homes the military family owns, there is no landlord to fix things. So this was a natural for the 2 groups to take on and with so many willing to help, it will spread the work and financial needs over a wide area, so it wont be a strain on anyone, WIN WIN comes to mind.
These folks felt honored to be able to help. They got to use their talents to help a soldier's family. Every phone call for help was answered - YES - without hesitation. Really makes you proud to be an American. :)
