View Full Version : Car is Shaking! MrCow350 Dec 23rd, 06, 08:52 AM My Car starts shaking bad when i reach around 70 mph. Same thing when i brake, slowing down from speeds over 35. Anyone know the problem? Feels like it's about to cave in. JimM Dec 23rd, 06, 09:10 AM Put a wrench on the lug nuts immediately. If that's not it, check wheel bearings, idler arm, tie rod ends and balljoints. SixtyAte Dec 23rd, 06, 09:25 AM Yes... Be sure to check what Jim said! You also may want to try different rims/tires to insure they are in balance and the tires do not have broken belts. It does sound like you have a bad idler arm tho..... Kev Steptoe Dec 23rd, 06, 11:33 AM Is the shaking in the steering wheel or feel it in the seat steering wheel = front Seat =back Simple things 1st All the Stuff above... Got sloted mags? Use std tapered nuts to alighn up, then replace one by one wth the correct nut and washer. Try turning the drive shaft 90 deg Check the sliders on the discs are straight and free movement Check backing/mounting bolts on the brakes. River Dec 23rd, 06, 12:26 PM I'd check the universal joints too. River Fred Ficarra Dec 23rd, 06, 03:34 PM And whatever you do, KEEP IT OFF OF THE ROAD! It's ready to CRASH. MrCow350 Dec 23rd, 06, 07:01 PM It shakes like all over...when it does shake. Camaro Dave Dec 23rd, 06, 07:09 PM Something is ready to let go. Find the problem, even if it takes you awhile to do it. Go over the entire suspension, drive train, brakes, wheels, tires, steering linkage etc. Chevy-SS Jan 1st, 07, 07:51 AM http://csgbenefits.org/camarovibration.pdf Try that .pdf document. It's all about tracking down vibrations in these old cars. And please be sure to post the solution!!!!!!!! - Carbo Jan 1st, 07, 08:06 PM My Car starts shaking bad when i reach around 70 mph. Or did it just start shaking one day? Let us know if you find the problem. Prelude00782 Jan 1st, 07, 08:20 PM I don't know the severity of the shaking... but definately check out what these guys have said. Get your wheels balanced, and your rotors could be warped. That would definatley cause what you are talking about. fatblock Jan 4th, 07, 07:14 PM Put the car on an alignment rack and use the jacks to simulate suspension heights.Have the tech run the car thru the gears to rule out drive line issues. While in the air he can also check the front end and dial indicate the rotors for lateral run out.Money well spent.Your car is unsafe and not fit to drive by your description. sdtsdt Jan 5th, 07, 08:38 AM And check the condition of each tire. A defect or breakdown in the structural integrity of a tire will also ruin your day... |
