if I am putting a 4 speed saginaw trans in my 69 car,what shifter do I need?Are they all pretty much bolt on or do I need a particular one?I am converting from an auto matic.

JOE58 Dec 24th, 06, 10:11 PM If you want an aftermarket Hurst shifter you can order one from an aftermarket parts catolog. The shifter is the same for saginaw or Muncie trans but the installation kit is different so you need the saginaw installation kit dubs68camaro Dec 25th, 06, 05:13 PM I think you also have to be careful if you are using a console. Some of the older shifters have the arm straight up (so it comes thru the tunnel way left), and some will have a bend to the right where the arm will bolt on. Have to be careful or 1st and 2nd will rub on the console. Straight-line-69 Dec 27th, 06, 10:16 AM Pretty easy swap. Yes the shifter linkage is all different. Also the reverse lock-out linkage is different (you may want to pull it anyway, especially if you have headers). I believe the reverse light switch is different and also the speedo cable will need to be longer and routed differently (I think,..maybe someone can clarify). |
