I have found a 1970 Firebird 400/auto needs restored but solid. It has not been driven since 1987 and has been in garage storage for the last 8 years. The car does not seem to need any body panels. Just wondering what you guys think its worth? My opinion on this is with the raising values on the camaros the firebirds seem like they may be a good investment.

1970 camaro firebird value would be about the same , I can't see any reason that a 1970 camaro would be worth more or less than a 1970 firebird ,,in my opinion the value is even between those two ,,

Unfortunately the buying public typically places about a 20% premium on a comparable equipped Camaro. Recently bird owners have started pulling that in some. Before I picked up the '72 Nova I met several bird sellers that were down right rude about "blanking camaro owners" thinking there stuff was better...

seems to me the Camaro (regardless of model) has a 50% higher value than the same Firebird, same condition, options etc

the ONLY exception are the Ram Air Formula and the Trans Am cars

a nice Formula is worth less than a nice SS Camaro all other things equal

simple market fact

more people WANT Camaros so the value is higher ...

I would agree that the current market value of a First gen Camaro can be up to 50% more than the "comparible" First Gen Firebird. But once you get into 1970 and beyond i dont see as drastic of a difference between the two models.

Actually it would seem after 70 The Trans Ams would be more valuable then Z28s. Especially Ram Air IV, 455HO, certainly equal year 455SD cars, even 77 to 79 400, 4 speed cars.

I agree, I have a 81 Z28 and I check the values from time to time. For mid to late 70's models the Trans-ams are worth much more than the Z28's.

Late '70's stuff yes, the NICE '77-78 Trans Am tends to be worth more than '78-81 Camaros including the Z28. But unless you get the right buyer, most if not all will pay more for '70 Camaro (esp a Z28 or SS) than a Firechicken. Pretty much true for all 70-73 Camaros/Firebirds... Now a '70 Ram Air car versus a '73 6cyl Camaro? Maybe. But not a 400 Formula.

I had a '70 Firechicken when I was restoring the '72 SS, a nice rolling chassis, NO rust, original paint, posi. Bought it for $300, finally had to sell it for $200 to a guy who bought it for the rear. The rest ended up in the wrecking yard, although someone did finally drag it out of there. It was a pretty nice car, but just not as many people looking for them. I never did understand that one, it was pretty much drop in your engine/trans and go car, while a rusted out '70 Camaro would have 4-5 takers at $500 or more.

70-74 Trans-ams with HO or SD 455's are pulling big money, I'd say bigger money than a 70-73 Z/28. Both cars being in equal condition of course. In terms of the big money the 455 Trans-ams are the ones, 400 cars are worth less than a comparible Z/28.

JMO of course....
