Hello Everyone,

Just started replacing parts on the firewall after I painted it and ran into a problem. Car is a 68 Camaro original came with a 6 banger and A/C. When I got the car it had a SB in it. I'm putting in a BBC. Brought all items to do it. Problem is when I try to put the heater core in the two copper tubes coming out of the core hit the firewall. I would need to cut a hole about two more inches to the passanger side to get them to pass thru the firewall. I looked at Rick's first gen, and the core looks like the one I have. Not sure if I have the incorrect heater core or something else is going on. Any suggestion are needed, and much appreciated.

I believe the BBC heater w/A/C has the hoses joining the core on the passsenger side underneath or close to the A/C evaporator.

When you look at a SBC firewall, the core nipples are the same location as a 6-cyl. A BBC non-A/C core has the core turned over and the nipples come out closer to the blower motor to avoid being in the same location as the BBC valve cover. An A/C BBC will have the nipples in the same location, roughly.

May another here will show a pic of BBC w/A/C.

Look here for route of heater hoses with A/C. You will see the heater hoses running on the passenger side of A/C box.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear. I understand where and how the heater core and hoses are run for a 68 with a BBC the problem is when I put the heater core in the box under the dash you cant place the box against the firewall because the two copper tube coming from heater core hit the firewall. To make it fit I would need to cut the square opening larger, about another 1 to 1.5inches to the passanger side. Has any one run into this problem. Is the a/c and non ac heater cores different. I might have a wrong heater core. Need help soon. dont want to cut a hole in the firewall.

I have replace several cores and the initial alignment to get the nipples through the firewall is kind of tricky. A/C & non-A/C cores are different.

I start with the box towards the driver's side, get the nipples through the holes, then the studs, and its there.

You might compare the new core to the old one to see if the nipples are bent differently. The OE nipples are at an angle, 30*-40*?, not parallel to the firewall.
