Hey guys now that my big block is done I need a new ignition box. I have a msd 6a, but I would like a rev limiter. I also plan on running nitrous eventually so I was thinking I should get a box with an ignition retard. I was looking at MSD and Mallory. I picked out two boxes and was wondering which one you think is better. I like the digital screen on the mallory over the dials on the MSD. I am open to other suggestion of boxes too. I do not want to spend a ton on this. Again nitrous might not be run this year, but figured I should not do this twice.

I like the MSD DIGITAL 6. Does everything you need.

I don't know if it's the best, but the Digital 6 has start retard,N2O retard, and some other nice features

Everyone has their own ideas. Buy a MSD that you believe will work for your application. Or,simply call MSD as they would know better than anyone. Doesnt hurt to ask them and they will give you an honest answer. good luck.

In you application a digital 6 would be great, you have a built in retard for nitrous, plus the rev limiter. We went 7.70's @ 176 with a digital 6 and two stages of nitrous, it was a bit borderline for our application, but would work great for yours, allowing room to grow.
It certainly couldn't hurt to call MSD though.

I'm getting ready to ditch my MSD 6A and go with Mallory 685. It has everything the MSD digital 6 does plus a built in window switch. That is, you can set it to have N2O come in at 3K and out at 6.5K, a very good safety feature.

I Have the mallory 685 and much prefer it to the MSD Digital 6. The readout is nice and it also has the Window switch as stated above. And it can be used with forced induction later if the need arises sice it aslo has Boost retard.

The only digital 6 around where i live messed up a few weeks ago on a friends car (Wizard67). It just started hiting the rev limiter at 4k no matter where it was set at. Had to turn it off.

I've got the MAL685 in my Vega and had one in my old Camaro. The features are nice and easy to use. I did find them very sensitive to grounds though. Just make sure you have all good connections and you should be fine, and you will have a few bucks left over to fill the nitrous bottle.:)

What did it do when you had a poor ground?
