I have 2 pair of first gen hood hinges. One has noticeably smaller springs than the other. Does anyone know why? Which would be the best to use of the two?
Thanks

Thanks Mark Rossiter Dec 26th, 06, 08:45 PM I understand that heavy duty springs were used on the hoods that weighed more than the stock flat panel hoods - i.e. the SS hood and later the cowl induction hood. These hoods were a bit more stout, so the HD springs were used to hold up the extra weight. capt68 Dec 27th, 06, 09:08 AM Thanks Marks. That makes since. gary.mcl1 Dec 27th, 06, 09:30 AM The SS had 28 coils and the non SS 26 coils Unreal Dec 27th, 06, 05:19 PM The SS hood uses the heavy springs; The standard hood and cowl hood both use the smaller springs. Fred Ficarra Dec 27th, 06, 11:04 PM You know what I find cool about my well lubed SS springs? When I release the hood latch, I have to catch the hood because it fly's up so fast. Neat. It's ducted. SY1 Dec 27th, 06, 11:58 PM Russell take a look at this topic on the CRG site. It's well documented. The SS was the only model to have a non-standard spring (other than the fiberglas hood which had no spring). SS spring has 2 more coils, larger diameter wire, smaller diameter coil, longer in length and more pre-load, it also had unique hook opening angle. My SS springs on the 68 seem to be correct according to the CRG site. It's one of those small detail things that the guys creating clones don't usually pick up on. http://www.camaros.org/underhood.shtml CDJr Dec 28th, 06, 12:09 AM So the SS's used the same spring as Firebirds ehhh? Cuz both sets I have are the heavy ones with 28 coils and so are all other Firebirds ;) capt68 Dec 28th, 06, 08:18 PM Russell take a look at this topic on the CRG site. It's well documented.
