Hi All,

A very basic question, but one I want to be sure of the answer before I start. I purchased an aftermarket HEI distributor with an internal coil with vague instructions for my 68 ss/rs conv. My question is it has a three wire plug with yellow, red and black wires. Exactly what should be the source for each wire?

Any help would be appreciated.

That 3 wire plug goes directly into the cap connector, so basically from the bottom of the distributor this 3 wire connection plugs into the part of the cap that hangs over the side of the dist at top. Then next to that is a TACH and POWER connector, you need to feed the Power connector a 12-14 volt ignition connection, ie it turns on when ignition is ON. I am guessing your original setup was a resistance wire so make sure its 12-14 volts when key is ON and not 8-9 volts. If its 8-9 you'd have to replace that wire with new wire that has no resistance since HEI needs full voltage.
Check out www.msdignition.com, their 'Street Fire HEI Distributor, PN 8362' is a rebadged aftermarket HEI.
