View Full Version : Muffler Drone help?
mnm99 Dec 26th, 06, 06:15 PM Just installed a set of Warlock mufflers and the drone in gear at idle is bad. Cruising and at idle without gear its fine. I have nothing except metal under my seats. What could I do to help this? Dynamat? ect..... HELP....
octanefueled Dec 26th, 06, 07:01 PM Any sound-proofing material will help. There's been some debate over which is better, but it all really boils down to how much you want to spend and what you're looking to get out of it. If you want to keep the car light, you might consider a spray-on deadener like LizardSkin.

There out the back. It's 2 1/2 inch with a crossover all the way.

I had this problem on my trifive car, put 12" x 3 flow thru glass packs in line but dont think you will have room on Camaro unless you use the flowmaster transverse 80 series. I have seen guys use the Borla flanged mufflers with good luck. I got deadmat and jute pad.

I don't want to change the mufflers. Did you have good results with the deadmat and jute pad?

Yes, can hear phone ring now!. Put the same in my WS6 bird with flowmaster back. deadmat from JC Whitey , cheapeast I could find, 4 rolls. All floor , up on bulk head, in doors and roof. Used the one sided foil back jute pad all over also. Then put down carpet. Drove all way to Billings Tour, no problem.
mnm99 Dec 28th, 06, 05:59 PM Problem solved ..Kinda.. When I had the exhaust installed I had the pipes turned down between the leaf and quarter. My old setup ran out the back. So for s#@ts and giggles I got a piece of pipe 45 degrees and stuck it in my end pipes ad pionted them out the back. DRONE GONE.. I like the way it sounds now turned down compaired to out the back though outside the car. After the interior deadener and carper well see!
Chevy-SS Dec 29th, 06, 07:59 AM Makes sense, as you have changed the resonance characteristics of the system. Glad you got lucky. Many times, the drone can not easily be removed.

mnm99 Dec 29th, 06, 08:18 AM I would guess the exhaust is bouncing off the ground and hitting the trunk. The trunk acts like a big amplifier. I bought 125 sq ft of Raammat and 54 sq ft of the fiber material. After I do my complete interior I should have enough to do the trunk. I'm hopping if I make the trunk solid. Hopefully I would score!

Marc, I would think more about putting this stuff in the trunk, if you put on floor, you may get too much condensation? This may cause some floor rusting? I would line the back parcel shelf and tubs and even apply to quarter sections beside the rear seat. You already killed most of it so a little more in needed area should be fine. How about behind the headliner?

Interesting point. I've got this stuff all over my floors and it's a big help in reducing noise. Never thought about moisture.
However, I would think the guys that really know are those like Boyd Coddington and Chip Foose. As far as I can tell, they put this stuff all over the interiors (especially floors) on every car. Can't be too much of a condensation issue, or I gotta believe they would be doing something else..............

I didn't kill anything yet. I want to keep the pipes hidden pointing down. How much condinsation could I get? Since I owned the car it's in a garage and has never seen rain! I'm going to do the inside first and see how it turns out. It's a convertible, no headliner.
