Can anyone recommend a fair price to pay for a GM P/N 3947772 Seven-Bladed fan and clutch for a '69 Z28?

I can't say for sure on the 69, but I paid $25 for a 772 fan dated for my 70 L78 car. Take your time and search Ebay, you can make a score eventually.

Mine's original and has aluminum blades. Nope, not for sale. Hasn't been restored either. It's always looked like this.

Fans alone are going for 150 plus on Ebay. Clutches don't come up all that often but an original in working condition with the ink stamps still visible will usually bring more than the fan does.

Are their two different versions of the 772 fan? One with aluminum blades and one with steel? I have a 69 dated 772 with aluminum blades like the photo. It feel off a shelf a while back and bent a couple blades :( I bought it for my L34 Z11 because someone said it shouldn't have a standard four blade that was on it. Since then I've been told different?

The 772's are all aluminum. (just the blade tips)
The're is an undated version, with no part number, but that is aluminum also.
The blades are bent stangely from the factory.

Can't tell you how many people have complained when they get one. (shipping damage)
Then I show them they are all like that. :) (and it is the truth, they are.)

They don't really bend that easily.
Usually it is 2 blades that look funny.

Thanks Jeff, can I send you a photo of mine to determine if the baldes are bent or not?

All 67 to 69 Camaros be they L6 or big blocks came equipped with the 4 bladed fixed fans, except L78's, Z28's, COPO's (solid lifter cars) and cars equipped with A/C. Those exceptions came equipped with a clutch and 5 (67/68s)or 7 (69s)bladed fan. There was also an option (RPO K02) in all three years that would allow the HD fan and clutch setup to be used on any V8 engine, but only 4712 Camaros were equipped with this option.

Like the guys say, you will probably pay more for a correct working CV clutch than the 772 fan. I paid $450 for mine. You don't see many CV clutches anymore. These were correct for the Z's.

Not to hijack the thread, but....

Any suggestions on the best place to send a fan clutch for a rebuild? Somebody that can correctly put the ink stamps back on? Mine recently locked up.

Thanks
Doug

I have a 772 fan and clutch- not ink stamped, but spins great. Where is the part number located on the fan? Mine needs a good bath, but I do not see the PN or date code  anywhere. I do see the aluminum showing through a chip in the paint though, Kinda cool....

The more common 772 fans did not have the part number on them.
One quick way to tell the difference is the shape of the blade holders (with the rivets).
772's are square, the non stamped ones are pointy.

Both are correct, and used interchageably.

Sometime next week, I am going back to this one on my 67 BB.

Memory alert! Back in 1967 I removed the 348 tripower 350 horse from my 61 Chev 2dr-ht bubble top and installed a 360 horse 396 from a sad 66 SS396. It came with a clutch fan. I don't remember how many blades but there were at least 6 and probably 7. With the engine running I used to stick my fingers into the spinning fan and stop it! Just for fun of course. And to show-off a little too. I would never have gone near this fan!

I think this is someone who needs one of those "Caution Fan" decals for his car. :)

Don't want to be calling you "four fingers Fred Ficarra". :D

Easy now guys. I kinda worked up to it.;) The clutch didn't seem to work right and would let the fan nearly stop with the engine idling. Seemed safe enough. But I used to do all kinds of 'fun' stuff in my youth, like jump out of perfectly good airplanes (for fun) and repel down a cliff that only the Army Ranger instructor would try. (he was looking for volunteers) And water skiing at 80 mph. In fact, I had five activities going, all at the same time in my life that required a HELMET. Wanna hear about my Kawasaki Mach 3 ?

Oh, you think you live dangerously? I called my wife from a bar....without a helmet.

Unreal...You're not living dangerously...try having your wife drag you out of a bar while sitting next to a nice looking women ( I didn't have a helmet either) :D

I have a 3947772 fan and clutch assy that I'm not going to use on my 68 project. I removed them from a car as an assy so they are date matching.
Here are the numbers:

Fan
3947772
394087 K68

Clutch
4939889 217 68

I know the rules here about selling things using threads like this, so this item is not for sale, but could be traded for 68/69 console if anyone needs this with those dates.

Guys:

I have a 7 bladed fan in my 68 L78. Is there a way I can tell if it is original?

Mark

P.S. I got confronted in a bar by my wife (eventually ex wife) while I was dancing very close with a highly attractive woman. No helmet either but it was the early 80's and I was young so we didn't have to wear helmets back then. Our big ol' hair was protection enough. :p

Should have a date code. That is about as close as you can get to identify it as original.

It should have a date code that lines up with your car.

I paid $75 3 years ago. I have sold them for $125. Depends on the date and who wants it.

Didn't realize the blades are aluminum. Sure doesn't feel like it.
