I replaced the blower switch with a new one before I put everything in the dash. The blower shuts of in the high position. Could it be the AC relay? I don't know what else it could be. Thanks Dave

It sounds like the blower resistor is the problem. You might want to replace it with a new one and see if that solves the problem.

The high speed does not go thru the resister pack, but it does use the relay on an A/C car.

Yes, it could be the relay. There is also an inline fuse under the hood that powers the high speed relay/fan circuit that could be blown.

could someone please show me where to find the ac relay and the inline fuse? a pic or description would be greatly appreciated as I have replaced the blower motor and the resistor at the motor. thanks

The relay mounts on top of the evaporator case under the hood right next to the blower resistor. I don't recall the original location of the inline fuse, I rewired my car many years ago. If the inline fuse is good, you will have battery voltage at one of the relay terminals at all times.

It does sound like the in-line fuse. The fuse in the wiring that runs across the top rear of the engine and in the area near where the wire gutter ends above the right valve cover.

here ya go, the silver box in lower left is the a/c relay, the black snap apart plug is the fuse carrier. :)

Had the same problem on mine. Replaced the AC relay and everything worked fine. My vote is for the relay.:)

I also had the same problem, I had a bad ground, which for some reason only affected the high speed.

My problem is the oppisite. It only works on high for years. I have changed the relay. Brian

Brian, if it only works on high the problem is the resister. If you look in Click's photo above, just behind the relay you can see the wire plug and one of the screws that holds the resister in the suitcase.

I had a similar problem or maybe all the problems. I had the resistor go out and the fuse and the switch. But, I found one more problem. The wire harness runs down the firewall next to the AC box and mine got pinched between the firewall and the engine shorting out the wire once in a while. I suspect the short had a lot to do with the fuse and switch problem.

I had the same problem, it was the spring in the inline fuse carrier. The spring had gotten weak over the years and was not pressing the fuse against the terminal ends. Check to see that there is voltage to the relay with ignition on. On my 68, the wire is about a 12 guage, orange in color. The wire should have voltage with the ignition on regardless of the fan switch position. The fan switch operates the relay.
