I was just offered a 454 engine and tranny (I think 400) that came out of a 79 surburban. It has everything......carb, brackets, ps pump etc. It was running with some smoke.
My questions are as follows...........
what's the right price to pay for something like that?
is the engine built to accept brackets for a 69 camaro?
what all would have to be modified to fit in a 69 camaro?
will it require a larger radiator?
will old school 396 valve covers fit this engine?

My questions are as follows...........
1.) what's the right price to pay for something like that?
2.) is the engine built to accept brackets for a 69 camaro?
3.) what all would have to be modified to fit in a 69 camaro?
4.) will it require a larger radiator?
5.) will old school 396 valve covers fit this engine.

My suggestions are:
1.) As little as possible $450 to 600 around these parts for good core.
2.) Yes, '69 up uses the long water pump.
3.) You will need the following to correctly convert from a SBC to a BBC:
* Dropped Air Cleaner for Holley (cars without cowl hoods)
* Big Block Accelerator Rod/Cable and Bracket
* Headers or Exhaust Manifolds
* Two and one half inch diameter tail pipes (or larger)
* Pedestal Frame Mounts
* Transmission cross-member
* New Front Coil Springs
* Disc Brakes (RPO J52 for '68)
* Big Block 4 Core Radiator (if not already equipped)
* BBC Fan Shroud
* BBC 7 blade thermal control clutch fan
* BBC Heater Core
* Heater Cover for BBC
* BBC Bell Crank (Z-bar) 1/2" longer in length than the SBC Item
* BBC Clutch push rod
* BBC Sway Bar
* BBC fuel line and return
4.) Yes I recommend a Griffin aluminum two core 1.25" tube painted with radiator black.
5.) yes; so will the decals.

Need to read the June 1991 Super Chevy magazine article I scanned recently which covers this whole process with part numbers and photographs of parts for comparison.
