Looking for info, I have a 69 Camaro with a 383 SB, it holds around 30psi of oil pressure, it seems low to me for the motor I have.. I have the 7 qt. pan, and use a 1 qt. filter.. Also I use 10w40 oil.. I want to know what is a good pressure for a 383 and what everyone recomends for oil.. I have been told to use diesel oil 15w40.. LMK what you think..

It has 30psi at warm idle? If so, that is actually fairly high for a small block chevy.

Sounds alright to me.
Rule of thumbis 1 psi for every 1000rpm. (idle usually is about 10-15psi)

the 10 psi per is mostly a "guideline."
15 to 25 psi at idle is normal and good. Standard pressure oil pumps have a relief valve built in that dumps oil back into the pan at 50-60 psi, and most engines will hit that around 2000-2500 rpm.
Oil pressure cold will be MUCH higher.
10-30 or 10-40 oil is fine

And for oil; the only oil left on the market that will protect a FLAT TAPPET cam is diesel oil.

JimM. is dead on with his numbers. My SBC's at running temp only have 15 lbs. of oil pressure and 45 max. at wide open throttle!
