I was just wandering right now i have a 305 cid. I need more power for my camaro, and need to know what Differentiates a 305 from lets say a 350. Are they completely different engines or can i just change certain parts like the crankshaft, intake, etc and keep the same block. I know this sounds like a stupid question, but i dont know much about engines and i was screwed over by my dad when i bought my camaro.

305 and 350 are related, but not really interechangeable too much. What year Camaro is it you have? 305's pretty much suck and aren't known for power at all. If you're mechanically inclined at all, I'd find a cheap 350 from a similar year rig and cam it as you see fit. If you're okay with the wrenches, drop that cheap 350 in and run it for what it is. If you're piss poor with tools, pay a buddy to do it.

Thanks for the help. Your not kidding about the lack of power from the 305 hince the reason for wanting to upgrade. I can get a 350 i was hoping that i could just change some parts to get the power of a 350.

350 and 305 have the same stroke length and connecting rod length. The main difference is the bore (3.736" for 305, 4.000" for 350). The pisser is that with the small bore diameter, you are limited on the size valves you can run. I know an engine builder who runs a Camaro in SCCA racing and with their 305 inch limit and available parts list they can run, he's managed to put 300hp to the wheels. It can be done.....
