: getting ready to pull the triger
keypilot Jan 2nd, 07, 07:46 PM new here guys and happy to find you! i had a 67 back in the day (1988) wish i still had that one.
anyway, i have been looking for another one lately and came across this one. i am going to pull the triger in the morning. i was hoping to get an opinion.
it belongs to the guy's ex-wife now. what she knows:
it runs and drives, 350, auto (on the colum originally) needs front, back and pass side glass. (she took a bat to it) cheap paint job but no rust. trunk and floorboards clean. it is in california. this is all i know. no power steering or brakes.
all opinions are welcomed
she wont take less than 6k for it. and it will cost me 1k to get it to the florida keys.
some pics here

67pat Jan 2nd, 07, 08:12 PM Well...its the right year, for me anyway.Cant tell alot from the pics...have you phisically seen the car,in person?
clwilcox33 Jan 2nd, 07, 08:19 PM 6k is a good price for any running and driving first gen.
keypilot Jan 2nd, 07, 08:22 PM no, thats the scary part. i am not a big fan of internet buys. i have a good feeling about it though. i have been trying to charm this lady for weeks and she finally gave in. the pics suck but it is all i am going by.
not sure if i am brave or stupid (or both) maybe just hopeful it is not a total turd.
SavageCanuck Jan 2nd, 07, 08:30 PM Looks rough on the outside but I have seen worse. Are you sure its a 350 as I think it looks like a 327 but not an expert here.Going to need body and paint work and obvoiusly glass and who knows how the drivetrain is.Personally unless you know how to do alot of your own repairs I would just spend the 15-20K on one allready done as there are alot out there and your willing to pay to have it shipped anyway
eville Jan 2nd, 07, 08:38 PM Where in CA? a lot of guys on here from CA would be willing to look at it for you. Let us know. Looks rough, but 6+1k these days isn't robbery. Unless....
Dustypowers Jan 2nd, 07, 08:43 PM maybe its his loss and your gain
Brentmc Jan 3rd, 07, 04:00 AM Took a bat to it?
KevinK7 Jan 3rd, 07, 04:47 AM ...IF there truely isn't any major rust, ...the price isn't out of line (not bad actually).
If you want to 'build' a car (ie. paint it your color, interior, drivetrain, etc.) AND 'numbers' don't matter to you, ...it may not be a bad car to get. There are some looking for something 'to work on'.
On the other hand, ...if you're looking for a car that you can 'do a little' to and drive? ...as suggested, you might want to spend the extra money and get something more complete/workable...
67pat Jan 3rd, 07, 05:57 AM My point about looking at it is this. I have a friend who I grew up with that lives in Dallas now...he has always likes my camaro and is in a position financially to where he was on the hunt for one, like you. He would find one online, call me ,ask me to look at it to see what I thought.I did this a few times and some of the stuff looked good...online anyway. He made a few trips around Texas, one to Kansas etc.basically what he found was alot of junk and a whole lot of B.S. One of my concerns is the whole "baseball bat" thing...obviously this relationship with her husband/live-in or whatever, went south somewhere and if she took a bat to it...is it HIS car and does SHE have clear title to it or are you gonna get there, ready to buy and she's trying to get him to sign the title or worse forge the signature ETC ETC ETC.If its a deal then cool, personally I've had alot more success dealing with the classified section of this forum...you get alot more straight talk from guys selling here than on the open market...not to plug the site or anything but have you looked at the classified section?
67FamilyFun Jan 3rd, 07, 06:20 AM Hope it works out for you...
It also looks like she took the bat to the right fender and the grill. In the interior pic, I couldn't tell if the floor was rusted through by the brake pedal or if that was a shadow or what...

keypilot Jan 3rd, 07, 06:27 AM thanks for all the replies.
yes she and her hubby had a bad ending and she took it out on the car (B*tch) but she ended up with it, title and all, in the divorce. it was the only thing he wanted. so she took it.
as far as the work, i had planned on doing it myself. except the body work. (i suck in that dept.) when i was looking, all i wanted was a decent body. didnt care if there was drivetrain. everything was 4k to 6k. i figured if it drove it was a bonus.
the cars on this board are awesome. i hope to get mine half as nice, but i cant spend 15-20k. although it will cost me that much in the long run i can do it a little at a time with my son and i will know what i have when its finished.
wiskeesour Jan 3rd, 07, 08:54 AM Go get it. Its exactly what your lookin' for. If its close to me Ill go look at it if you want....
jet_car2000 Jan 3rd, 07, 09:22 AM Key poilt that looks like a GREAT project for you and your son and the price is good too 7k.. to your door in the keys in my opinion thats a great deal for a compelete 67 that looks like install a lil glass and you could drive. the best deals i ever got on cars was from ex or mad wifes.
Prelude00782 Jan 3rd, 07, 09:24 AM Personally, if you're looking to do all that work yourself, why not try to find a 1st gen in a little crappier condition? Seems like you're paying alot for the running condition part, that you sound like you're going to replace anyway. I'm a 2nd gen guy, so stop me if i'm wrong guys, but if you find a rolling chassis with little to no rust, without an engine/tranny, might be a little cheaper.
If I can offer you any advice, take a minute and think about where you want to go with this. A full blown restoration here is going to cost you over the 15 to 20k mark you set. It's going to be very difficult for you to put money into this car without working towards a full restoration. Once you decide to fix and clean up one thing, you'll find a few more you want to do. It spreads and it's addictive.
But if you're just looking for a sunday driver, you could probably pick that camaro up, put a few grand into it, and have yourself a solid ride to cruise around town with.
I can't imagine anyone here putting their tools down and saying to themselves "OK I am not spending any more money on this camaro! I don't need those vintage style wheels or replica gauges or aftermarket a/c"
But good luck with whatever you choose!
keypilot Jan 3rd, 07, 12:02 PM i am not looking to make a show car out of it. if it was a real SS or RS maybe. i just want something to drive around on the weekends. if it hauls *** and turns heads, all the better.
@prelude i have BEEN looking for a while and finding that little or no rust car for less money has been imposible.
i sent the money today and i am scheduling the pick up for within a week.
i guess i will find out when it gets here. this is going to be a LONG 3 weeks.
RobSS1113 Jan 3rd, 07, 12:42 PM congrats on the purchase .:hurray: .......... Do us all a Favor and Take that Bat away from that Woman !!!!!!
Post more pics when you have a chance.

Lost in the 60's Jan 3rd, 07, 02:11 PM Rick's offers a complete replacement package...I'm sure there are others too. This link is for correct "LOF" marked and date coded to your car. The catalog shows undated at $800.00 for a complete set. If you need to replace most of it already, I would consider a complete set. You can then sell your remaining originals to some date code nut and recover half of your cost for all new. Click on the "Dated Glass" link to the left.

dragon0123 Jan 3rd, 07, 02:16 PM Keep us up to date on the car when you get it on this thread please. I would have personaly took a trip to CA. and took a look at it and made a vacation out of it before sending any money.. Ive known too many people who have ended up disapointed. Good luck to you though..
dragon0123 Jan 3rd, 07, 02:20 PM also i wouldnt send in for too many parts as of yet.. you never know what youll find missing or find up as a treasure thats usable until you get the real thing in front of you.. Worst case scenario, you hate the car and sell it, needing to resell all the parts you just bought..
OK .. more worst case than that scenario.. Car falls off the top of the car trailer and is slides into a ravine driving though the mountains.
Good Luck.

He can always get money back out of Camaro parts.
Make sure you get a copy of insurance from the carrier for damage while in their custody. They should have a full damage policy with NO deductable. I've had 3 shipped to me and required it for them all.
Car looks as good as other "rollers" I've seen go for that price. My 67 has all the glass but was missing many other parts and more have been swapped and butchered. I now have $1,000 in replacement parts and still need many more for a $12,000 car. You are waaaaay ahead of me at $7,000. !!
It appears someone was smart enough to keep the rain out. It would be nice to have it covered for the trip or hire an enclosed carrier...I know, that costs a fair piece more but may be worth it.
Good Luck.....I'll stay tuned.:D
keypilot Jan 3rd, 07, 02:59 PM thanks for all the replies guys.
i had the owner tape up all the openings with some heavy plastic and 100mph tape. (not really worried about the paint job) checked with the carrier and you are right on about the ins. i told them about the windows and he is going to try to put it right behind the cab to minimize weather.
but if it does fall off i may make money on the deal (depending on book value) haha kiddding!
i will check that glass link. thanks, you may be right about replacing all the glass. i will wait and see how bad the rest is.
carrier says probably pick up fri or sat. then 8 days max to me (or so he says)
DAMN I'M EXCITED!
eville Jan 3rd, 07, 03:48 PM for the glass check out GPSuperstore one of the site sponsors here. They have smoked glass kits for a good deal.
67pat Jan 3rd, 07, 04:03 PM Shoddy F- Body had a post for 67 class for sale two side windows and 1/4 windows...I posted back to him but didnt hear back, look him up under quick links, whos on line section if you want

Ditto...
In hind sight I wish I would have NOT started buying parts until I did a full evaluation and set a target date to begin. I have been "collecting" parts over the last 8 months. If you put together a list of everything you need you will be able to shop for the best parts at the best price. Bulk orders typically amount to a discount. Also, you won't have to pay so many different shipping charges... if you have to have some parts shipped common carrier you can get a bulk shipped out and the shipping charge can be minimilized. It may not seem like much at the time, but $10.00 here and $20.00 there in shipping starts to add up, vs. shipping it all (or most) out together.

Boy, you said.....paying shipping on individual items adds up to a lot in a hurry. Seems everyone feels the need to make a profit on it now too. I ship things once in a while and know it doesn't cost near as much as what I get charged.
dreamweaver Jan 3rd, 07, 05:28 PM .... Seems everyone feels the need to make a profit on it now too. I ship things once in a while and know it doesn't cost near as much as what I get charged.
When you look at shipping, it is usually "Shipping AND handling"... the handling portion comes in because companies have to pay employees to place the order, put together pick ticket, box or palletize it, do th ebill of lading, and cause the shipment to take place. In Big Business they have it down to a science. In small businesses, it actually is quite costly. I rarely ship things out but, when I do, I charge a premium. It is not merely the actual cost of the shipment, but the labor (and mtching social, FICA, State, worker's comp, etc. ) that starts to add up. It may seem inconsequential for what you get, but there is a lot that goes into shipping product out if you are not automated.
I know that our shipping costs have risen at least 50% in the last 24 months on product received. Most companies that I deal with now add a "fuel surcharge" to the shipment, predicated on what the current fuel costs are. It has almost become a commodity.
P.S. On the transport company find out if your car is going to stay on the same truck in the same position the whole time. If the car is going to be moved to a different transport truck, or a different location on the truck, it increases the possibility of damage. If it's not too late, try to get as many pictures of the car in advance as possible. Also, see if you can get the driver's cell number. Give him a call and tell him that you would like his to insepct the car periodically to make sure that the car above it is not leaking any fluids on top of yours, and that you'll "take care of him" when it lands. Flip him something when the car lands unscathed.
TOM BARKLEY Jan 3rd, 07, 08:45 PM How about auto city classics don't they have deals on glass?
italiano362 Jan 4th, 07, 06:16 AM I have used National Parts Depot for 90% of my restoration and they have been great. Fast shipping and free over 300.00. They just started carrying the glass windows. I checked at all the local glass companies and theres were cheaper. Rick's First Generation has a slightly bigger selection especially on small hard to find parts. No free shipping though. The problem with ordering all at once is wallet shock.;) I never dreamed in spending what I have and if I would have known from the start it would have never been.
