What is the trick or technique for removing the narrow polished aluminum strip that runs under the door along the rocker panels? There is a #8 trim screw at the front end and rear end of the strip, but it is also held in place along its length with clips of some sort. After removing the 2 end screws, how does the strip come off? Is a special tool required?

Also, how many bolts hold the fender on? What is the sequence of removal for the right front fender? Does the inner fender skirt have to be unbolted in order to remove the fender? Can the fender and inner fender skirt be removed as one unit?

Thanks to all you 1st gen Camaro body experts.

Hi.
After you remove the 2 screws lift from the bottom of the trim. You might have to use a small flat screw driver and twist slightly clockwise with your free hand or counter clockwise on drivers side. Just don't force it too hard or you will bend it. It will take a few tries.
As far as the fender. I remove the grill first then the 2 header panel bolts 4 lower valance bolts. 2 radiator suport bolts that attaches the inner fender to support. Then the 3 bolts with large washers that attaches inner fender to the brace. Remove 5 bolts that attach fender to body 2 on bottom 3 on top. I'm assuming that the hood was removed since that would be the first step. I just did this the other day!

Hi Camaroguy:
Thanks for the great info. It's great to know which bolts, how many, and where. I'll try it tonight. One more question: Regarding the long trim strip, I have the 2 *8 trim screws out, but it does not want to come off very easily. It would help to know if it is clipped along the upper edge of the trim strip or not.
When you say "twist it counterclockwise with the free hand", do you mean do this where it is clipped while prying up with a small screwdriver? The trim piece seems to be clipped in maybe 3 or 4 places along its length... is this true?
Also, I can feel small notched out sections on the bottom edge of the trim strip... are these drain slots, or are these where the clips are located.
Also, did you take the fender and inner skirt off as one unit? Or did you take the fender off, leaving the inner skirt, then took off the inner skirt?
It seems like the inner skirt will come off with the fender as one assembly.
Thanks again for you help. Hey, let's write a book when we are done!

The aluminum trim is held on by a metal strip about 3-4 feet long. The strip has bends on the upper and lower edges that hold the aluminum trim piece in place. The strip is attached to the body with 4-6 screws (it's been a while since I've had mine off so I'm not sure about the # of screws).
