I'm considering painting my aluminum intake...has anyone else done this? It looks like it would be a good way to keep it clean and protected, but is there a good aluminum type paint that would hold up to the heat? I'd like to hear from anyone who has tried this before. Thanks.

Aluminum usually needs to be acid etched before paint will adhere to it. Not sure about a cast manifold, but aluminum is hard to paint.

As long as you use the etching primer, you shouldn't have any problems. I've used regular Base/Clear paint on jetski motors and had no problems. I think I used NCP primer from PPG. I can't remember. The paint shouldn't burn off. If it does, you got one serious overheating problem!!! Just don't use anything in a spray can!!! Only use automotive paint you mix and spra out of a gun.

I use POR-15'S...POR-2O heat resistant paint, with the brillint aluminum coating. as long as the area to be painted is clean, ths stuff should get it done. I painted my exhust manifold a few months ago with it, and it has held up well.be sure to WEAR GLOVES,as this stuff don't come off when dry.

Have it powdercoated. I had the Edelbrock on my '81 CJ8 powdercoated silver and it looks great. I got the idea from a local racer, he's been doing his for years and they hold up well.

I'd vote against the powder coat idea. It does look good but mine started to crack and flake under the attachment bolts. I've painted a number of manifolds incl. the used Victor Jr. I just installed and had good luck.
This time I had it bead blasted first but I've also just scrubbed them good. I used a high temp Eastwood silver paint follwed by a clear coat. Looks great IMO.

I second the POR-20. Used it on my headers and it looks great.
