Hello All,

Does anyone have an idea of what a running 396 out of a 1965 Corvette would be worth? I think it had the oval port heads. This would be a 396 with the original everything (block, heads, intake, carb, valves etc.)

I may be wrong on this, but wasn't that the first year for the Mark IV big block??

Check the casting number of the block. Should be 3855962. If it is that casting number and it's a 4 bolt block it's worth pretty good money. It should have heads with casting numbers of 3856208 and they should be square port.

Any idea of the casting date of block and heads?

It will also have a groved rear journal cam (uniquie to '65-'66), with a high distributor tower in the valley liffter area. Block can be bored to 427 cid as it will be a thick wall casting if original (which is another reason it's worth big bucks).

if it's real, it would be worth a bunch. 65 was the first year, and the only configuration was a square port head, solid lifter, 425 HP.
