Sounds cool when new, quality of sound deteriorates with age. Chevy recalled them for a reason.

Dyno test comparisons show chambered to be very restrictive; more so than the standard system.

I had the Classic Industries system. Sounded great, but very restrictive. When I received the system, it had no tailpipes. I called Classic and they said the system does not include the tailpipes. I told them that is BS and the picture in the catalog showed it with tailpipes. After talking to the manager, they sent me a set of stainless tailpipes.

I have a a set which was one of 1000 sets made by Colvin 20 years ago or so. They are 409 stainless rather than 304. I like them, but they are very loud. They have more of a "Ping" rather than a throaty "rumble". Sort of "blum-blum-blum-ping, blum-blum-blum-ping", if you know what I mean.

If at all possible, I'd try to listen to a set before you buy. I did that and it sold me on them!

I have had a set of the repo's on my car for 7 years now. The sound is unique but restrictive. To me fairly quiet at idle but loud at full throttle. I like the sound of a set of Flow masters better(Much deeper throaty tone). So when these eventually burn out I will be changing.

The pipes are restrictive, although with a 302 that is not as important as with a bib block. Sure is an expensive way to go, though. I agree with "Unreal", they don't have a deep throaty sound.

Might check out http://www.classicchambered.com/ if you are concerned about restriction or wearing out. No chambered exhaust is going to outperform the best mufflers but the classicchambered design is supposed to be supperior to factory chambered mufflers from the 60's. They have a number of sound clips and videos on the site including the prodigy 67 Camaro.

Here is a link to a sound clip of my chambered system (just steam from the exhaust, not smoke). I just removed mine to install a repro transverse system. They do not have a throaty sound as said earlier. They sound like glasspacks to me. They are kind of rappy at 3500 rpm and do not sound good to me. Maybe an "H" pipe would help. They do look cool though.

Here is a Gardner Deep-Tone transverse system, 302 w/140 Off-Road cam:

10 sec Vid clip at idle (http://s20.photobucket.com/albums/b217/RamAirDave/GoldZ/?action=view&current=GoldZIdle.flv)

Their product is great and the customer service is even better.

What does their system cost now?

My system from Year One sound a lot more like the one Gary posted than Daves. More throaty. It was $814 for the full exhaust with hangers. I understand that it might be more restrictive than a nice conventional exhaust, but
1) It was original to my Z (10C).
2) I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!! the sound at 4k+ rpm. Absolute loud, nasty music!!!
