I am considering Buying this car . It needs every panel made for the rear of the car ,doors and full floors, fenders , and trunk. It also has a rot hole about the size of a Tootsie roll on the rain gutter . My question is should I buy it .

I have installed full 1/4's and a rear panel and tulip on my 69Z . I have figured the panels alone are about $ 2500 . The car is for sale for $ 6000. Before anyone posts and says it is up to you . My point is a car selling for $ 8000 or $ 2000 needs the same panels typically. Why not buy the cheaper car.

I agree most cars under $8000.00 need alot of rust repair so why not start out as low as possible.

If you have the skills and the gumption I say go for it. What does the trim tag say? Does the car have a good pedigree?

No BS and Ive said this before, I sold a 67 witha 396 and a 4spd, very fast car, shoddy interior. Body was rust free and straight with ugly paint. I started at 10K and let it go for $7500 and this was last June/July. There is a very nice 68 on craigslist for 11K right now . PM me if you'd like and I will send pics of the 67 I sold. It was also an RS!! Too many cars or she would have stayed.

...that's close on that one since it needs what you've mentioned. If it were an RS/SS, 4sp, etc., ...then that's a different story. On the other hand, ...it's not like $4000 1st gens are easy to come by either, ...even needing work. But as you indicated (6K +2.5K, ...roughly 9K) you might be able to find a rust free body for 8-9K, ...it just may take a bit longer to find (possibly as long as it might take to get the sheetmetal work done on that car). The net is you'll probably have the same amount invested, ...you just might be able to find a car with it's original sheet metal.
...case in point,...a friend of mine recently sold a '68 (327/210 w AC) for $9000. Motor was done, subframe done, ...body on jackstands, ...car was VERY rust free. I would have jumped on it had he told me he decided to part with it.
Ironically, ...I recently came back from a trip to my brother's (in Nevada)...with a low mileage '67 rust free CA black plate car. I paid more, ...but it has all it's original sheetmetal in great shape.
...bottom line I really don't think you could lose on that car, ...just a matter if you want to (and are ready to) invest the TIME (you're going to invest the money either way you go...)

Not all cars in California are rust free, I know this from living there 16 years. So, don't believe anyone who says that.

If I was you go for it. At least you will know if there is rust. Unlike those rust free cars I have seen. You could drop small pets threw those rust free cars.:D
