Can anyone tell me how much more hp a 177 weiand blower will make on a 468ci engine? I have one on now and the motor supposedly dynoed @ 580hp. I bought the motor already built, already with the blower on it. I guess what I am looking for is how much would my hp fall off if I remove the blower and go naturally aspirated? The motor has iron heads (world merlin grumpy jenkins). Am I going to have to change the pistons, cam in order to maintain that horse power? How high of compression can I run with those heads? Thanks

The blower is a smaller capacity blower. The amount of boost is dependent on the size of pullys you are using. Most of them generally are in the 6 lbs to 8lbs boost for the street. If it was making 580 hp with the blower, a guess would be in the mid to high 400's. Really depends on the cam and if the heads were worked on. If you wanted to put out 580 hp normally aspirated, definately a cam change, a piston change to get your compression up (blowers use lower compression, usually no more than 9:1), a carb change would also be in order. With iron heads assuming 91 octane fuel, about 9.5:1 would be the most compression to run. There are other variables at work here as well and too involved to cover in this forum. Hope this helps.

thanks for the info. I was told about the same thing as far as the cast heads and the amount of compression I could run. So, you think I can change the pistons (get my compression up to 9.5) change cam and probably be able to maintain my hp?

Why are you taking off the blower.??

Do you happen to know how much boost it is pushing now.??

I dont believe you would be making the same HP just by bumping the comression up to 9.5 and removal of the blower.. but then it is all dependant on the boost setup now.

Mark,

I am taking the blower off because I am tired of having a hole in my hood and just ready for a different look on the car. I'll probably be installing some aluminium heads to help with the hp..

Thats a good reason.. it can be tough to drive it in the rain. My neighbor has that problem too with his blown TA. You may wish to consider a centrifical supercharger and you may not have to change too much with the motor. You probably have the right compression already. Just something to keep in mind. Good Luck.
