Hopefully gonna go look at this car tomorrow.

Anyone have any advice on what to look for on these cars? Guy is asking $11,500. Running 283/4speed. Through email, he told me it has an older amateur restoration. Said it has had some metal work done, some filler, and could use a new paint job...
What does it need to look like to justify $11,500? I download a VIN decode sheet for this year, but I couldn't find anything about the decoding the body code, although I don't think they tell you much anyway other than body style, paint and interior...

Thanks,
Scott

what advice can you offer about where to look and how to tell if $11500 is reasonable...I know it's a nearly impossible question

Sorry I missed you famfun, but I sent you a pm. ;)
As for the rest, I will say I have never seen a 2dr hardtop, meaning no b-pillar, that wasnt a Belair. that said, I dont believe this car is faked. lol
On the A-pillar, with the door open, youll see the VIN. A=150, B=210, C=Belair. If a 'v' is in front of any of these it is a v8 car. The 'trim tag' is on the passenger side firewall or passenger side cowel, I believe.
Of course I myself dont whatsoever claim at all to be a 55 know it all. So if I am wrong plz correct me. I wish Strick to see this post, He is extremely knowledged when it comes to tri-5 chevy's.

I had one of these, (see photobucket), 8, 57 hardtops in my history along side my Z. These cars depending on where they came from will have body cancer inside the trunk floor if not the entire rear floor near the inner wheel wells. They are also noted for rust along the wheel opening in rear as well as rocker panels. Front and rear floor and toeboards are subject to this also. The vin stamping is usually tagged at the driver side piller post and the body tag is around the right front cowl near the battery. These are big cars and very suitable for cruising. Lots of repop parts available . Hope this helps

Ha..No..I appreciate your and everyone's help. I ended up inside an MRI machine for my knee today...but that's another story. If I'm more mobile, I'm gonna call him tomorrow to see if he still has it, but my wife is "suggesting" that I pass...for now. She told me I should wait till after we move this spring to add to the corral...she's probably right.
