: How did bushing came out?

I replaced my subframe bushings with GM rubber parts 2 years ago. I noticed this weekend that one lower bushing under the big washer has worked it's way out. How and why?:(

I keep reading the replacements ones are not as tough. So, maybe it just wore out?

Very odd, for sure. It shouldnt move much more than some slight flex once torqued down, much less work their way all the way out.

get some solid mounts, and never have to worry about it again.

There is some truth to that, but I think Gary is more of an original/stock type guy. Even rubber mounts shouldnt be "gone" in two years.

What did you torque the sub-frame bolts at? They should be around 90 ft. lbs.

With some anit seize on the bolts?

Only part of the bushing came out. I don't remember the torque setting. What amazes me is that there was enough movement to allow it to come out. I will try and check the torque tonight. I did not use antiseize. Probably a little oil or WD. Is that for future rusting or just accurate torque?

Did you install the metal spacers in the new bushings? They are little metal spacers that the bolt goes thu. You need to reuse the ones that were in the original bushings if you didn't get them w/the kit you purchased. You can also get them separately.

Someone (me) left them off my Camaro when replacing the bushings and when I torqued the bolts down, the small part ofthe bushing got really squished and started to come out over the washer.

That is correct. Most of the bushing kits do not include the back bone sleeves and you have to reuse your old ones if they are not too badly rusted out. I believe you can get new ones from vendors like Energy Suspension or maybe Classic Industries now. I can see how a frame bushing would come apart without the sleeves in place. I would also think that the sub-frame would move around without the sleeves being in place.

I removed it tonight. The cushion as it is called in the assembly manual does not seem to fit the upper cushion that sticks down thru the subframe. If you look at the section on page 41 the cushion appears to fit the upper cushion snugly. Mine does not. I remember that now when I installed them. The metal sleeve is there.
