: Mark VIII & Taurus fan mounts for 1969
South Side Goons & Hitmen Jan 8th, 07, 09:25 AM Hello All,
I know some of you run the Lincoln Mark VIII fan or the Ford Taurus fan. Does anyone sell the fan specifically for installation on a first gen Camaro??????? I did a search on the Forums and I found some places that sell the fan/radiator as a combo but I could not find just the fan by itself with the mounting brackets and/or instructions.
I have a 1969 Camaro with an aluminum 23" radiator. :boring:
FWIW, I replaced my stock alternator with a Powermaster a few months ago. I forget, but I think it's either 130 or 140 Amps. I also replaced the battery. Both parts were purchased at Advanced Auto Parts. I know the Mark VIII fan draws huge amps and requires a special relay even if my car does not have A/C.
I also know that the 1970 & later Camaro's run 26" radiators so they can put the dual 12" fans on them. For us first gen guys it appears that we don't have the mounting surface. So how about it, anyone know where someone can get the mounting brackets & instructions for the Mark VIII or Taurus fan???? Or does all that stuff have to be fabricated??
SICKT9 Jan 8th, 07, 09:45 AM Well I had to fab up some brackets for my Mark 8 and also trim a bit off the fan shroud. I'm running a 5 core rad and lwp, you may not have to trim though.
As far as using a relay you don't need one with a http://www.dccontrol.com/ controller made for the Mark 8 fan. Basically it 'ramps' the fan speed up and down as needed, not on/off. I am using the FK35 unit. I think they sell the fan and cotroller together, trimmed already if needed.
Search the pro touring forum for the dc unit, lots of info.

I am running a LT1 fan setup on a 23 inch radiator. I used the original upper fan shroud bracket for the top and fabbed some pieces of thin metal for the bottom. You have to do some minor trimming on the lt1 shroud but other than that it is a great piece for someone on a budget. I have not had problems with overheating at all. I can send some pictures if you are interested. Getting ready to swap in a Be cool set up so I might have one available pretty soon.
Mark .L.W. Jan 8th, 07, 06:43 PM I put the lincolne fan on My 427 with the DC control that is b setup , we can sit in traffic at 90 degrees and you feel the or here the fan at all .
Mark .
Joe G Jan 21st, 07, 10:48 AM I bought a couple of 2 inch wide aluminum stips from ACE hardware and cut and bent them for my brackets. Polished them up to match the radiator. Worked great. Cost $5.

I picked up a Taurus fan and mocked it up to my radiator. I have a big block with a long water pump. With pulleys on I only realistically have 3.5" of room and the Taurus fan takes almost 4.5".
So what do I do? Short water pump? Different fan? I had it ready to mount up and did final measurements and wasn't happy
400bird Mar 25th, 07, 02:14 PM have you tried flipping the fan over?
i know the fan motor is offset so, you may have enough room with the fan motor in another spot

I tried seeing if removing the fan motor and mounting it behind instead of in front of the "shroud", but then it would extend into the radiator. The motor itself is the problem since it hits the water pump.
SICKT9 Mar 25th, 07, 06:44 PM You may have to trim the shroud a bit, it's not uncommon to do. I had to but don't remember how much.
Mark .L.W. Mar 25th, 07, 11:04 PM I think i removed about 1/2 an inch that made enough room to remove belts without a hassle .
Mark.
69camarojoe Mar 26th, 07, 07:45 PM It honestly needs almost an inch of clearance. I can't honestly figure a way to trim enough to make it work.
How would this fan be with the original shroud instead? Good cfm and good size and dimensions.

69 Ghost Apr 4th, 07, 08:07 AM Anybody have any pics on how a Mark VIII fan fits a rad? I know the dimensions are a bit different but the Tarus install looks great.
whytry Apr 4th, 07, 09:34 AM I have the Mark VIII fan on my 68, with a BBC and electric water pump. I had to trim off a 1/4" and offset the fan a little to clear the motor on the fan. But it works great. I will see what I can come up with for pics when I get home tomorrow....I think you can trim about 1/2" off the shroud and not have the blades hit the radiator, plus if you have a universal radiator you can trim off the lip of the radiator core support. If I recall someone else did this and got about another 3/8" of additional clearance..... Hope that helps.
69 Ghost Apr 4th, 07, 10:13 AM I am running a Jags That Run radiator setup for a Z car. This is basically a stock size radiator with some radiator mounts. The radiators are for 82-84 Camaros. The mounts have aluminum bars that will easily mount the fan setups. I am currently running a stock 80's Camaro electric fan mounted to this. The install is clean but I have no shroud. I should be able to pick up a fan for cheap around here in the yards. I decided to go this way for a clean install and if I ever need another rad they are only $130. Here is a link:
