Thumbing through the Rick's catalog - camae across this rear disc kit on p285.

Was wondering if anyone has used this kit and if so how well it fit, and also if it would fit with my 14x7 rally wheels. (I have factory discs on the front and the wheels fit fine)

Thanks!

I had the same kit purchased from a different supplier. Based on the picture it uses the same calipers and mounting brackets.

The pros of the kit are:
- getting rear disk brakes
- Has an e-brake
- mounting brackets mount without removing the axles.
- Kit has everything you need
- Cables connect to factory cables to use factory ebrake system with no trouble.

The cons are:
- (this is a big one IMO) uses the late 70's Cadillac calipers which have a reputation of failing without religous use of the parking brake everytime you park the car or even being parked for extended periods.
- To fit the rear rotor over the axle hub you may need to have your axle hubs turned down (negates the advantage of not having to remove the axles due to mounting system).

In the end i returned my kit due to some problems. One, the mounting brakets were not machined exactly right to allow the caliper to slide on the caliper bolts (I had to grind the bracket a little bit), two, the salesman sold me a kit for a 67 which uses a L and R caliper as opposed to 68 & 69 which use two R calipers. With those problems and the reputation of the caddilac calipers I went with the touring classics rear kit.

Thanks for the reply.

My biggest question is will it fit with my 14 x 7 rallys. There are lots of huge brake kits out there, but I want to keep my rally wheels. You don't happen to remember the supplier you bought the kit from, do you? I called Rick's and they said they "should" fi the 14 x 7 wheels, which to me says "we're not sure". I'd like a bit more definitive answer before plopping down the cash.

Thanks again.

I have basically the same kit as this and have had it on my car for 10 years with no problems. I am using them with 14x7 wheels with no fitment problems. My setup on my car is a little different -basically I got a setup off of a Deville. I have a second set off of a Seville if you are interested that is for a 69 setup. The bolt pattern was slightly off and both brakes are in the rear. I also have a setup off the car that I was going to put on that came off of a seville with staggared brakes. When installing the brakes the ebrake is adjusted by pumping the emerengency brake to get it to work and 'adjust'. The only issue I have ever had with this is that when I first put the brakes on I rebuilt the calipers and could not get the ebrake to engauge. All I had to do was remove the lever and put a wrench on it after putting the brakes on and tighten it up. Ebrakes have worked perfectly ever since. Shoot me an email if you want pics of the car with the brakes on it.
