Did SS cars come with 3.08 open rears. Or transverse mufflers?

The 3.08 axel ratio was standard issue when the RS option was also included. The posi was an extra RPO and could be ordered but not directly associated with the SS or RS factor. The transverse muffler is correct as well. Looks like a nice project if the block stamp checks out OK. I can never figure out why sellers post "#'s matching" and dont include photos of the #'s? I see you're a 67 fan :) I own all three first gens but the 68 is IT for me :)

It was the 12 bolt open that threw me.

Pat, The 3.08 axel ratio was standard issue when the RS option was also included Ive not heard this before, did you find that at CRG or where? Im curious since the RS didnt affect the cars driving ability, why certain gears for RS? :)

So, how exactly can this car be determined as original SS? I'm just curious.

My 68 RS/SS 396/325 has 3:08 open rear and its original. The original owner ordered other options, but didn't splurge on a posi. Camaro Recognition Guide says that's standard for 350's with a powerglide and RS package. All other 350's got 3:31 as standard. I've found some errors in this book in the past so don't bet the farm on it's accuracy.

for a 68 without paperwork, POP, dealer invoice etc, you cant determine 100%. 68's were the worst for info. stampted on the car somewhere. 67's were the best, 69's are so so.. not much you can do other than read posts in the TAG section for clues.

Nah, someone posted it elsewhere and I had a few minutes to burn. I have enough cars at the moment. :)

From the Power Team charts, the standard rear axle ratio changes with the Rally Sport option, as well as with or without air conditioning and transmission.
Also interesting is that it changes from 2.73 to 3.08 with 6 cyl and 327's and from 2.73 to 3.07 with the BB 396 indicating 10 or 12 bolt.
The SS 350 does not change with RS, the ratios are are already numerically higher with the small block SS
