Knowing no more about this than what you posted, MY gut feeling figures it's probably just an old -929 cam..

195/202, 112/108, .390"/.410" that GM used in a bunch of different engines all the way from a 195 and 220hp/283, 275 and 300hp/327, 295 and 300hp/350 and finally up to the 265hp/400..

It's a great daily driver cam like stock should be..

Can you check it's lift???

OK, you just take a 6" long dial caliper measuring tool and measure the low sides of a lobe and then measure the high sides of the lobe and subtract the low from the high to get lobe lift.

Measure the first or last pair of lobes so's you will measure both, the intake lobe and the exhaust lobe..

Nothing to it..

Ok, both intake & exaust measure .291 lift .

Ok, both intake & exaust measure .291 lift .0.291 X 1.42 (GM stamped net rocker ratio) = 0.413" lift.

OK..

Correct cam for a 302 Z-28 motor is the great old -346, "30-30"/"Fuelie" solid lifter cam!!

Per GM and their way out to lunch way of measuring them, it's a;

346/254, 114/112, .485"/.485" and needs anywhere from .026" to .030" lash, hence the "30-30" handle.

Wolverine Blue Racer and I call it a 314 and Pat K. call's it a 304 so take your pick..

Crane and others sell re-pop's of it.....................

PS., and that cam if it is what I posted would be a good one for a 302 motor if you wanted a hy-cam.. But you'd better have 11 to 1 CR............

PDQ67,

Thanks for all your help. If you were bluilding this engine,would you use the hyd.cam I listed or find a repo solid lifter....Block is std bore, 302 orig.pistons,1178 crank,and 186 heads w/202 & 160 valves. I should have the compression ratio you refered to. I won't be racing this car ,just weekend driver to cruise ins and car shows.

I am old-school so I would probably use the old 30-30 cam just like stock!!

Or this one from Clevite.

PN 229-2289; 280/246, 108/106, .501" and need's .030" lash on both sides.

Or this one from Elgin;

PN E1133; 280/246 , 110/106, .498" gross lift and also need's .030" lash on both sides.

I have the Elgin in my closet that I got from PAW as onna their house SSI cams for use in another junk301 motor!!

Competition Products sell's the Elgin too.........

DON'T forget to use at least a cheap set of Z-28, (-142), valve springs with a solid lifter cam b/c you can be looking a 8,000 rpm if you have the nerve enough to hold your foot in her!!

My old junk301 went 7500 with only the little-bitty -097 Duntov solid lifter cam in it so I know what I'm mouthing about..

My points would bounce about there and I'd back off her, let it catch it's wind and kick her again!! He, He!!!!

AND I love the sound of a short stroke SM block up around 7,500 to 8,000 rpm's to this day!!
