I'm about ready to start reassembling my Camaro, how have folks sealed the heater box to the firewall? I did a seach and found where someone used grease on the firewall and a silicone sealer on the heater box. What else have you used? I was thinking about a bead of permatex.

I used foam tape (1 side self-adhesive) on my heater box cover. Once it's tightened down, you don't see the foam tape.

There's an idea! Foam tape, like the weather stripping stuff at Home Depot?

I used butyl tape.

I used 3M flexiclear seam sealer. I was told RTV might stick/attack the paint. The asm manual for 67 calls for black flowable sealant with a 5 digit GM p/n of some sort.

My glass person recommended the seam sealer for the upper roof rail moulding where that foam tape used to be. Suggested strip caulk would harden and crack and is kinda defunct compared to modern sealers.

Anyway I used it on the heater box.............

Strip caulk or thinly stretched butyl tape (as mentioned above) is what I use.
