: Quarter Glass Chrome

I recently replaced all the glass in my 69 for the resto. I thought the Chrome strip (you know the one that the weatherstrip between the door glass and quarter glass goes into) would be easy to replace on the quarter glass. Well let me tell you! I worked on these go&%$#mned things for five hours and am still not sure they will be ok. The stuff (rubber seal) that you are supposed to use is called Everseal. It's a rubber/cork type of material about 1-1/2" wide and comes in various thicknesses. I was told to use 1/16". Before installation, I measured the old stuff on the old glass and was satisfied that I had the right thickness. I then measured the glass and the chrome channel. The glass was 7/32, the Everseal was 1/16, folded over the glass = 4/32 for a total of 11/32. I then measured the chrome channel and came up with 9/32. Does'nt sound like a tight fit huh? I tried soap, varsol, light oil (yes Everseal recommends light oil) and silicone grease. No stinkin way would this stuff go on. I tried thumping it on with a light rubber mallet and realized that although it was going on, it was bending the chrome! After using a block of wood, and the rubber hammer, I finally got the stuff to stay on, but we'll see tomorrow. Has anybody else had to install this stuff? What product did you use and how thick was it?
Suggestions appreciated.

Jim, I used windshield urethane caulk (in tube), pump some in the channel on both sides, push glass on and wipe off excess. WEAR GLOVES. The caulk holds the glass in very good.

I went to a glass shop with an extra quarter glass and chrome in hand. They picked out a strip they said would be correct..don't know the thickness, but it was less than 1/16". I smeared some dishwashing liguid on it, folded it and installed it in the channel. Then soaped the glass, and it slid on by hand. After the soap dried, it was very tight. I did it with the window installed.

Thanks for the reply guys.
I retried this using a different type of soap and a different approach and I now have well fitting chrome on the glass. I guess I was too afraid of breaking my new glass and didn't apply enough muscle. I didn't use the rubber mallet this time, I just thumped it on with the palm of my hand and on it went. The rubber hammer was too light and just bounced off. Oh well I'll know for the next time. The 1/16" material is the correct thickness.
Thanks again
