: Startin a Restore
iridektm Jan 11th, 07, 07:50 PM Me and my dad are looking to find us a first gen camaro ss/rs to restore. not sure what we are going to get......one with an engine and tranny that work or just frame and body and go from there. my guess is with a working tranny and engine but messed body and interior. and then mod the engine and clean her up real nice. we gotta find one first.
just wondering what yall have spent on these things to do an "average" restore.......not like buy new axles locked and topped and brand new crate engine and brand new tranny with a $10,000 paint job.....but just a average camaro. some pics would be good to, and the mods you did with some specs.
also.......what you think you could get for your car. im seeing them selling for crazy amounts everywhere and dunno if those guys put that much into and are breaking even or they are makina llarge profit. j/w
:beers:
thanks

justin
607 Jan 11th, 07, 08:52 PM First of all, if this is a father/son project do not spend too much time worrying about resale. Enjoy the time and memories. I would look for a car with as solid of a body as you can find. Use this site for tips and just read. Interiors are not too much money and easy to do. Bodywork will add up quick. Perhaps a route to take is focus on restoring the body right. Paint it cheap. Get it running. As time goes on work on the motor and someday put a quality paint job on it. Like buiding a house, if you do not have a solid foundation you will have to tear it down and do it over again.
Alot of money went into my car and I am not concerned about if I will get my money back. The first time I took my kids for a ride kind of makes you forget that stuff.
Good Luck:thumbsup:
Daral Jan 12th, 07, 05:53 AM A real first gen. RS/SS is going to cost some $$ no matter what condition its in. Make sure your go look at the car or have someone you trust look at it before you buy. Do your homework starting with this site. Read everything you can about the year and model you want. Be patient you will eventually find what you want.
Myfirst 69SS Jan 12th, 07, 06:23 AM If possible try to stay away from Ebay. Many of those cars look great in the photos but are rust buckets. Usually the good ones have enough photos to show the full condition of the vehicle, those are the ones getting the money. Check your local papers and buylines. Best place to buy a car is local, seeing it before you buy it is key.
TraxUnderground Jan 12th, 07, 06:58 AM No matter what you do it will probably end up costing you more than you think. It doesnt happen to everyone but to most it does. Its worth it though. If its a father/son project, its priceless already so enjoy the ride before, during and after the project is done. (PS..they are never really done !)
Good luck

angelglo Jan 12th, 07, 11:58 AM im a bit confused. are you talking about drawing up blue prints for the shop? if, so, first of all, make the shop as wide as you can. dont just make it according to how wide the doors will swing open. secondly, when are you and your dad planning on starting this project? are you looking to buy the car first or do the shop first. i would not feel safe about leaving a 1 gen camaro out in the elements.

Justin: Speaking as a Dad with kids in high school and college.... Get off this site and concentrate on your school work!! You can post here when you are out of school. If you don't have a computer at home, ask one of your teachers if you can stay after school or go to the local library.
Stay in school, learn to spell and get good grades. Go to College. You will be able to restore all the Camaros you want if you get an education and a well paying job. OK I feel better now. :) I better go check to see if my kids are doing their school work and not on this site.
GROVE MAN Jan 12th, 07, 01:57 PM i no of some classic camaros here in my home town for sale, my buddie buys and sells them. he knows what there worth so he gets a good price for them but its worth asking him what he has. if you have that desire to work on hot rods there is nothing like it!!!!!!!
