I want to move my heater hoses over, they are too close to the
engine. Will putting a BB box and core on it do what I want?
What problems could I run into doing this. Are there two nuts
on the top and three nuts on the bottom of the box all that have to come
off in order to pull off the box from the fire wall. Also how should
I seal off the holes that will be there from the SB core tubes?

I'm curious as well. I plan to do this to my 1969.
Judo, All I know is that yes, I was told it will move the heater hoses over. Thoughts from any of the experts?

I just did this. You have 2 options. 1..is you have to remove the pass fender to get the cover off if you want to replace it with a BB one. There ar 2 more nuts that you cant see that you have to get to in the fender well. You can install the BB core from the engine compartment ( I did it ) and bend the brackets that hold it in a little. 2.. you could use the same box and drill 2 holes in the location that the BB core would be comming out. They sell a bracket that goes around the BB tubes and mounts to the box to look factory. You have to drop the whole heater box inside the car to install the core. The existing holes could be sealed with a small piece of flat foam or something like that.
Either way good luck its a PITA. It was easy for me though. I had the whole front clip off and had unlimited access!:D

1. Why are the hoses so tight to the engine? They are supposed to be close, but if it's so close that you are kinking the hose or something, you might have the wrong motor mounts/frame stands.
2. I did what Marc described, and converted my small block cover to a BBC cover with a drill and the cover trim piece. Foam would cover the SBC holes, but I welded some sheet metal into the holes. It's a PITA to remove without the fender off, but guys do it all the time. In addition to the two nuts on top and three on the bottom, there are two more on the part of the case that holds the blower motor (One on top, the other is at about the 8'oclock as you face the firewall...you can't see it, and have to be a magician to get to it...)
There are quite a few posts in the archives that detail the process.

Who changes Heater blower boxes all the time ? I tried everything on my small block with a/c and I had to remove the fender. I managed to get it unbolted, but not removed. I picked up some plastic caps at Ace hardware that snapped right in the old holes. Measure both holes as they are not the same size !

I removed my three times just yesterday :D
Seriously, anytime someone posts about heater cores and what a PITA it is, someone else posts that they did it in 35 minutes...with the fenders on...in the dark...blindfolded.
I sit on the "It's a PITA" side of the fence so I did it with the whole front clip off. I couldn't get my fat hands anywhere near the other side of the blower to find the bolt.
That being said, there are PLENTY of posts in the archives of guys who say there is no need to remove the fender at all.

don't know how different it is, but i took the heater box off my 71 Nova in about a half hour in the parking lot of my apartment building- and that was going in blind and not really knowing what needed to be taken apart to put in the new heater core. that time includes taking the inner fenderwell out and scouting things out as i went.
i think the car was only apart for a little bit over an hour from the time i got back from Napa with the new core, to the time i was topping off the coolant.
