View Full Version : changing a sbc ac car to bbc ac car
Angie W Jan 16th, 07, 08:36 AM I have a 69 sb 350 ac car with all the original ac components but the engine is not original and I have a bb I am thinking of putting in. Is there alot to change over to put in the bb? Should I just go with the sb or the bb?
thanks
Musclecar Jan 16th, 07, 09:51 AM I'm assuming that you want to keep the factory A/C? If so, you'd better keep the sb. If you change to a bb and want to keep the A/C you'll have to change the Evaporator box. The bb won't fit with the sb evaporator box. I went through that with mine but was lucky enough to find a bb evap box. Now, I don't even have it hooked up so it will come back out next time I pull the motor...I'd keep the sb if I had to do it over again..
novaderrik Jan 16th, 07, 01:47 PM why not just get some aluminum and fiberglass and modify the sb evap box to clear the big block? notch it to clear the engine, and build a "dimple" out of aluminum and fiberglass to clear thebig block.
that could be done in a couple of hours.
coke69z11 Jan 16th, 07, 04:38 PM You will also need to change the tranny crossmember and motor mounts. To keep the AC, a big block air box is a must have. Maybe larger radiator for cooling.
Angie W Jan 16th, 07, 06:42 PM thanks for the info guys I guess I will keep the 350
Musclecar Jan 16th, 07, 07:21 PM I'll sell you my BB evap case if you change your mind but it won't be available until this summer. That's when I plan on rebuilding the motor :D
69Z27RS Jan 17th, 07, 03:50 PM I might be interested in that evap case if he's not.
TJS69 Jan 17th, 07, 04:00 PM Hey Angie W., build your small block into a 383 or get a 406 etc. Another option is to switch to a Vintage air etc. and you won't use that box.
Musclecar Jan 17th, 07, 07:51 PM I might be interested in that evap case if he's not.
WHEN and IF I take it out this summer I may have to auction it off. I bet I've had 5 people already asking me to sell it to them. Must be a pretty hot item...Rare item...
69Z27RS Jan 18th, 07, 01:41 PM Well only half of it is being reproduced, which means half is NOT being reproduced, which is really stupid and aggravating to those of us that need a complete one.
Musclecar Jan 18th, 07, 06:10 PM It will DEFINATELY be for sale early this summer, along with the motor I have in my camaro. I'm going with a 502...:D
ad.powell Jan 18th, 07, 07:06 PM good luck, a small block to a big block is a lot of bucks,a lot of detail, and a whole lot of frustration. go fast either way with the right set up.
