Gentlemen

I have what appears to be an aftermarket master cylinder and a power booster that I am unsure of as to originality. I have been painfully trying to return my 69 SS396 convertible to as close to original as possible. My question is what have you guys done regarding the MC & booster? If I knew what I had was original equipment, I would have rebuilt, however, I think what I have is a replacement. I did find several MC & boosters on ebay ranging in prices. Each claim an "exact" replacement to the original. Just wondering if there is a recommended/reliable source. I contacted Rick's Camaro and they said they had not seen an original for rebuild in over a year. Really don't want to wait that long. Thanks in advance as you guys always have good advice.

Doug, look at the little tab on the power booster, should be on outside edge of booster near top. If original 69 it will have a 9204 on one side (model #) and a 3-digit number on the other side of the tab (date code). From what I understand all 69's used that pwr booster. I'm not sure if all master cyl were the same. Mine is a 309 (last 3 number's on side). I don't know if the Z's were different.

Thanks guys. I will look mine over better and maybe at least salvage the power booster. If anyone has a MC, I am in the market! Thanks again,

I finally had a minute to clean off the booster and MC. The booster has the 9204 on the tab! The MC has 257 then F 7 N on the side and E1S128 Made in the USA on the bottom. What does the MC #'s mean???? The booster was on the car when I bought it with the MC. What is my next step; I assume the booster should be rebuilt? Thanks madmax and to anyone that can help.

Not really sure of the #'s on the MC. As far as rebuilding the booster, I just got my 9204 back from Jerry MacNeish of Camaro Hi-Performance, Inc. yesterday. It came out great. It took awhile as he waits till he gets 5 to send to the plater for refinishing to get a better price. Completely rebuild. There are lots of others out there but he's done alot of my parts on the car. Cost was $145 with S&H included. He could also tell you what MC should be on your car as he is a reknown Camaro expert. Give him a call 408-781-0418.

I have an extra Master for your car.
#309 stamped US.
Very clean, but needs to be rebuilt - let me know before I list it on eBay next week.
Should look like this:
