: What's with these wipers?

When I bought my 67 recently it did not have windshield wipers. I ordered convertible wiper arms from Rick's and the wipers hit the chrome at the top of the windshield. In a prior post a commenter advised that I might have the wrong arms. I sent them back and got another set. Guess what? They also hit. What's going on? The prior owner installed a new windshield and I'm wondering if it could be incorrectly positioned. However, I'm hoping not. So here are the measurements. From the knob at the base of the driver's wiper to the chrome trim at the top of the winshield measures 20 1/2 to 3/4 inches, depending on how the tape measure falls. The passenger side measurement is 21 inches. The wiper arms without blades measure 14 inches. The wipers overlap on the chrome bye about 1/2 inch. Please tell me I've got the wrong arms again!!!

69 convertible arms measure 12 1/8" from the center of the wiper gear on the cowl to the small button on the end of the arm that holds the end piece onto the arm (the part that the wiper blades attach to). Over all it is 13 1/2" long from the center of the gear arm to the very end of the wiper arm including the part the blade attaches to. So 14" from end to end is about right.

The blade itself is 15" long.

Thanks, but not the answer I was hoping for! http://www.camaros.net/forum/frown.gif Maybe the 67s are different? Also, I wonder how you might install a windshield improperly such that it its too vertical (tilted forward). http://www.camaros.net/forum/confused.gif I've never installed one myself.

Do you have the wiper arms on backwards. Don't even know if that is possible, but the arms hook to the left looking towards the windshield, which will shorten the effective length.

Measure your blade lengths as well, the blades themselves are 15" long which is not a standard length anymore. Maybe you have 16" blades?

The arms are on correctly.
The wiper blades measure 15".
I'm going to try to contact the manufacturer to see if they make a wiper 14" long that will fit these arms. I'll start with Rick's.
If that doesn't work, I wonder if there is a way to adjust the windshield. I used to have an early Corvette and those windshields bolted in. I don't think that is the case with Camaros. Another thought is to try adjusting the chrome at the top of the windshield. Perhaps the retainers could be tightened or the chrome can be trimmed?

The height of my windshield is 20 3/4" using a yard stick with the bottom edge resting on the top (closest to the windshield) edge of the wiper gear to the lower edge of the upper chrome trim. Clear space between the upper and lower chrome trim is 18 1/8". from the center of the wiper gear to the tip of the drivers side wiper blade is 20 5/8". There is about 1/2" of clearance to the upper chrome at the closest point of the arc.

Mark,

Thanks for the measurements. I'll take more measurements tonight and compare.

Mark,

I just spoke with a tech rep from Rick's. He checked their in-stock wiper arms and found that the ones marked "convertible" were mis-labelled and were actually for coupes. I'm sending these back (again) and he's getting me the correct ones. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Thanks again,
Peter
