Well, for the past 2 years now i have owned and loved my 68 Camaro SS 350, what i love more about it is that my Grandmother bought this car new in 68 and we had it since then, the car orginally was a 250 Line 6, but now has become a mutant, let me explain. the engine is out of a 69 SS/RS Camaro 350, Tranny out of a 69 Chevelle SS TH350, hood is off of a 69 RS Camaro with fake hood loovers, and im planning on buying a new rear end for it. but i dont care, i love it. whats even more, the Tranny its rebuilt, and the engine was rebuilt somewhere around 10K miles ago, and the car, physically itself has 68K miles on it. well, im in the process of rebuilding it. y rebuild if it has been in the family since day 1. well, a few years back the car got stolen and my grandmother was well, heartbroken, just so happens a year later my father finds it in the Bargin Hunters guide in a car lot in Lynn. we get it back, and when we did, there was alot of internal damage done to it, thats y i have rebuilt it and have mutant parts. please dont shun me for doing this. im only 18.

Dude, my 67 Camaro is so far from stock there is no bringing it back. It was a 1967 327, 3speed (I think). Anyway, it was obtained by a race crew that turned it into a Super Gas car (I think) and dropped in a 468 roller motor and a TH400.
Interior? None. Removed. Roll cage added.
So its so far from stock there is no bringing it back but I don't care anyway, this is about having fun. Making the car your own and wrenching on it here and there is what makes this so much fun for me. I am no mechanic, I sh!t you not; :clonk: But I learn and learn more when I suffer the inevitable screw ups. Its not a daily driver so if I don't get it started this weekend, there is always next.

When it does run, its a warrior at the strip. :boxing: It just seems to have a spirit to it.
Have fun with that car, its an heirloom now. Your grandma bought it and now you have it. I think its great that an 18 year old wants to work on and restore an American classic and not some rice burner.

How cool is that?
Good luck my friend!!!!

Mine doesn't have the heirloom thing going for it but was a 6 cylinder when new and at some point in its life a V8 was installed and has some traces of being a drag car from some point in time.
I bought it from a couple which used it as a daily driver and the motor was on its last legs.
I did a lot of mechanical work to her so far, swapped motors, changed rears twice, changed converters twice, installed a shift kit, and just recently went to do a cam swap that turned into a total rebuild.
Do I care that its not a RS,Z,SS,RS/SS, or not original ? Hell no! I'm havein' fun. :D
Welcome to the club. :beers:

1.760 60'?

That is pretty decent. What setup do you have to get that 60' time?

8.2" stock rear with 3.73's, a Eaton posi and Lakewood slapper bars running McCrearys(American Racers) at 12psi. I couldn't hook too well even at the track then a buddy said unhook that sway bar... front rises pretty good now :D

So do you get the front tires up off the ground?
What are you running for an engine and trans?

I have Lakewood's but they are too short and end up 5 or 6 inches short of the spring eye.

Slappers falling short of the spring eye will bend the springs... I had to change mine due to that

Was 10.17:1 406ci smallblock with a 350th and a 3000 stall. Best I did was... http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a130/Dougs68Camaro/71865314-S.jpg

Not bad at all....

I am going to try the Competition engineering traction bars, as I hear that they hit right in the spring eye of the Camaro's.

While I'm at it, I think I'm going to change the bushings and pads too to urethane.
