View Full Version : Parking brake assembly differences?

It appears that the parking brake assembly (in the car) on my 69 is the style shown for 67 and 68, but different than that shown as "correct" for 69.

My 69 is pretty early, being a 10D build. Is it possible that early 69s got the "old" style parking brake? It seemed to bolt up and function fine.

What exactly are the differences between the 67-68 and 69 assemblies? Looking at photos of the repro units in Rick's catalog, it looks like the release handle is a little different. Is that it?

Is there a date on a parking brake assembly anywhere?

The 67 & 68 are almost identical except for minor reinforcement stampings in the main section. The 69 has the release rod about 1-1/2 inches below the rear mounting bolt and i think the origionals had a bend in the release rod but i think the gm replacements did not have this bend.I believe they will all interchange though without major complications. The release rod on the one you have may be up real close to lower part of dash but should still work.

Thanks George! I finally have the instrument panel back in the car, so I can re-check the fit. I swear this was on the car when I brought it home, but looking back at the photos I guess maybe it wasn't.

My buddy, one owner back on the title chain, had a ton of F-bodies, so it is possible this is an earlier assembly.

Just to kinda close this out, my assembly is a 69 piece, and it fits perfectly. It does not, however, have the little dropdown bend in the release handle. So, maybe a straight handle is correct for an early build 69.

There were two different handles in 69 - straight and bent. Don't know if it's time dependent or not.....
